In 2018, Blackadder bottled two exciting Panama rums. The color as dark as colored rums from Guyana or Trinidad. The alcohol content is as low as old Armagnac. Of the 15 and 20-year-old duo, I particularly like the 15-year-old. The rum is not a monster of complexity, but it brings perfect balance to the point. Raisins and chocolate on the nose. Really a lot of it. Coffee, caramel, like a giant espresso caramel with roasted hazelnut. But alongside this sweet side, tobacco, cloves and orange peel add a lovely depth to the rum. The game continues in the mouth. First coffee-caramel candy with some tonka, but then also an amazingly clear fruit (red apple and red currant) and towards the finish with a woody, tiring bitterness, which is, however, very well integrated into the sweet and fruity flavors. Wood and toasty caramel on the finish. This is relaxed, but not the highlight of this excellent Panamarum. If you are looking for a reference in this profile, you can compare it with the WDC Cuban 1992, which is not quite at the same level. Nevertheless, it is the best Panamarum I know (and there aren't many yet). By the way, he also makes a great Old Cuban 😉🤤

Palate Light oily, wood, light roasted, light caramel, faint chocolate, light cherry, faint coffee, dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, light oily, wood, dried fruit, light caramel, light molasses, faint coffee.

8,7:On the nose, dark roasted/charred wood notes like burnt sugar, caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, leather, smoky, spicy, dried fruits like raisins, orange peel, molasses with tobacco, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is flowery, earthy, dark with licorice, sweet with honey, dried dates, apricots and red fruits arise, metallic patina and confectionery, baking spices. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is brown, oily with roasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, nuts, later mocha, crème brûlée, leather, chocolate, spicy with baking spices, nutmeg, vanilla, charred, fruity with dried fruits like raisins and apricots, red fruits like cherry, citrus fruits, as the molasses is thick, earthy with tobacco. 8,6:The finish is long, dry and tannic, slightly metallic, fruity with dried fruits, banana and cherries, the wood is roasted, brown, spicy and the molasses earthy with cigar tobacco, flowery, dark with black tea. blackadder panama 1998 & blackadder panama 2003 in direct comparison. Both are very similar in profile. Delicious sweet Spanish-style rums that are surprisingly smoky. The Panama from 1998 is a little smokier and leaves cold ashes on the finish. The younger representative is more pleasing on the palate, more oily and very drinkable with a little less smoke and no ash. Blindly, I would have guessed that this was a rum with added sugar. Panama 1998: 83 pts. Panama 2003: 85 pts.

Tasted this first individually and then in a second session against the 20yo. The nose is loaded with caramel, dark chocolate, raisins, roasted notes, leather and cask. The palate is the same with a little coffee and a fruity note of red fruits. A very good Panama, but for me it still falls short of rx242 (Bellamy 1983)

This Panama already comes quite dark and heavy. Definitely not a light stuff. I find the nose still quite elegant with beautiful aromas of mixed dried fruit with melted dark chocolate. On the palate it then shows its enormous power in the form of wood, mocha, dark chocolate, a minimal hint of dried raisins and some brown caramel. This largely continues into the finish. One of the few Panama rums that I like

Northern Lights Meeting 2025: The color is already blatant .... even if it was helped there, very handsome. Raisins and caramel on the nose, In the mouth a fine sweetness super mild nice fruitiness. All in all, very mild and drinkable. Medium-long finish. In a direct comparison with the 20 year old, it's ahead for me.

Delicious bottling from Panama, I wouldn't have expected it to be like this. Thanks to Lukasdrinkinghabits for the split. I poured this and then left it to stand for a while, which did it a lot of good. A lot of dark chocolate has developed.

I strongly doubt I would have assigned this rum to Panama in a blind tasting. I would rather have guessed Guyana towards SVL, very dark, roasted and oily, with molasses, malt, mocha, licorice, lots of chocolate and dried fruits. The oak could have a bit more depth and the finish could be a bit longer, but that's nitpicking at a high level. A great Panama rum!

Lots of caramel here too, less raisins than the 20y. A little more fruity and multi-faceted than the 20y, but the 20y has a little more depth, which I like a little better. On the other hand, the 15y has a nice fruity component on the palate.
