23.08.2025 Retasting and I still like it. Celebrating Michael's 50th birthday with some good rums. ------------------- #4455 05.11.2023 just came back after visiting a former colleague and he offered a few rums to try. I only have notes because I came unprepared 😊 Luckily Thos Was the last and by far the best one. Nose: fresh, wood, mint, caramel, dried fruit and a light smoky note. Palate: oily, wood, mint, caramel, raisin, light smoke. Finish: very long, wood, mint, medium dry, dried fruit. There was a natural sweetness to it and the overall balance was really nice.

Edit: in the meantime I think the profile is quite good again A typical 2003, lots of mint that dominates. Tasted against the 2003 Samaroli and the TDLRoni. It's a bit more aggressive than the Samaroli. I'm not so taken with this profile right now.

Nice and mature nose. Wood and vanillin forwards with candid herb candy providing depth and complexity. Menthol notes are also present, while this bottling doesn’t strike me with freshness on the nose. Expected notes on the palate embedded in a darker and heavy profile showing some dirt. There is a specific artificial vanillin note, however, which undermines balance somewhat.

Strong T.D.L. with intense notes of ripe fruit, mint and a distinctive spiciness. The aromas are multi-layered and harmoniously integrated, giving the rum depth and character. A successful bottling that convincingly presents the profile of Trinidad.

In direct comparison to the Auld Alliance, this 2003 has an almost different aroma. The emphasis here is clearly on the spicy, darker side. The fresh mint is discreetly perceptible in the background, but nothing more. I find almost no fruit at all. Some only appear late in the finish. All in all, a very good bottling, but it doesn't come close to the Auld Alliance

Once again, my big TDL crosstasting. The Nobilis TDL 2003, the Kill Devil 13 yo 2003, the Tamosi 2003, the first TWJ 2003 19yo, and the new WDC 22yo. We know that the Nobilis, Kill Devil, and WDC come from 02/2003. For the others, the exact batch is unclear. Unfortunately, I’m missing one of the CDIs from April 2003 today – I assume the TWJ is from April. On the nose, the TWJ forms one side of the spectrum: full blast fresh mint, juicy peach, a bit of mango, minimal tea in the background. The Kill Devil forms the other side, reminds me of OR&S, nougat and caramel, heavy and sweet. The Nobilis is also on the Spanish side, but with yellow fruit like dried mango and peach, also mint above the perception threshold. The nose of the Nobilis is very pleasant but not particularly complex. Very similar to the Tamosi, but more expressive, fruitier, and less smoky. The WDC is hardly distinguishable from the Nobilis, similarly intense fruitiness, a bit more closed on the nose. On the palate, the play repeats. The TWJ shines with mint and juicy peach, the Kill Devil shows nuts and dried fruit. The Nobilis surprisingly brings a lot of menthol in black tea, heavier and dirtier than the nose suggested. The fruit is not quite as juicy as on the nose, but also not as elegantly dried as with the Tamosi. The WDC, which was so similar to the Nobilis on the nose, shines here with softer, more elegant aromas and the best alcohol integration. The Nobilis is the only other one in the group that brings mint as a distinct menthol note in the finish. The finishes of all the rums are very nice, with no excessive bitterness and the fruit aromas lasting long even in the Kill Devil. In the rating, I like the TWJ best, the Kill Devil falls behind. WDC, Tamosi, and WDC are largely on par with slight advantages for the Tamosi. All very tasty, but far from the top class of the vintage, the CDIs for 1802, Caksus, or Premium Spirits.

A charming T.D.L. whose gracefulness becomes apparent on tasting. The nose is very gourmand, with chocolate, caramel and spicy woody vanilla all present. Fruits (dried, red and yellow) are more discreet, as are floral (rose) and menthol notes. An empyreumatic note of smoke and tobacco stands out and contrasts with the rest of the nose. A rich, opulent olfactory profile. The rum reveals its full potential on the palate. More exuberant, fruitier (blackcurrant, peach, lychee), floral and mentholated, the palate reveals remarkable aromatic concentration. Spices abound with licorice, pepper, chili and vanilla, while the empyreumatic side rises gradually to toast, chocolate and smoky style. With a few more pastry notes, we discover an elegant, complete and very balanced rum, despite the contrasts. The alcohol is superbly well integrated. The finish is quite long, but rather thin on the palate, with less pronounced flavors. However, the fruity, fresh and intense menthol, spices, caramel and burnt sugar are still perceptible, as are the smoky woodiness and slight bitterness. A Trinidad rum that's as versatile as it is pleasant, a real treat for the senses and one that we'd like to savor endlessly.

For a 2003 TDL, it seems rather Spanish and is a little too sweet and caramelly for me. The alcohol integration is okay but not perfect. Otherwise, peach, bitter roasted aromas, some menthol and caramel come together here. Not bad but also far from the Champions League of really good 2003 TDLs.

Tasting date 16.08.2026 wonderfull sample gift from Mr. Michael Søndergaard. RX16047 Nobilis T.D.L 2003. Nose: Dried fruits, young wood, caramel and molasses. Balanced light mint. Mouth: Creamy mint, well balanced young wood. Dried fruits, apricots, raisins and prunes, oily consistency. Spices like white pepper. Delicate minty notes with natural sweetness. Residual taste is medium warm with white pepper and vanilla spices, caramel. Delicious balanced dried fruits like apricot, raisins and prunes, young wood and light nutty notes. Recommendable T.D.L The glass: Caramel and young wood. Tasting “In the cave”

Had the opportunity to try a very small sample of this, so my review is based on an initial, rudimentary impression and a quick memorative comparison to similar profiles. On scoring I built in reasonable restraint in an attempt to not embellish, over- or understate the experience. Typical condensed profile on the nose, but explosive on the palate. Rich in dried fruits, wood, mint, eucalyptus and graciously salted. It’s less spicy and dirty than usual. It trades some of the petrolized notes for candied fruits and what I -perhaps ungraciously- call ‘forest notes’, such as old pines, resin and undergrowth. Red fruits, wood and mint linger extensively making this an excellent dram and lengthy experience. Admittedly this is one of my favourite profiles.

The nose isn't very expressive. It's a pity, because what follows is much better, with a fine attack on the palate, greedy and fruity. The finish is more bitter. The whole is nice, but could be a little better for my taste.

Here it was hard for me to give a rating, as I already have a clear idea of a TDL. This Nobilis is very concentrated and has to compare with the bottler of The Whisky Jury little mint notes and is also less dirty. Instead, I find more spice, depth and complexity here. It seems a bit closed. For me, a great rum that is getting better with time. Depending on expectations, I like it more or less.... I personally like the 2001 from Nobilis better.

31-01-2026 - Rate 8.6 Nobilis Warehouse Tasting #4 We are back at Nobilis to another warehouse tasting. It’s the second time tasting this great TDL. A nice revisit Nose of mint, vanilla, dried fruit and wood. Palate follows nose close with a roast and leather aftertaste. Medium finish dominated by wood and mint. More well balanced then their new 2010 TDL, but like the more wild new TDL.

In direct comparison with RX15670 and the RA TDL 2001 2nd Edition, this one is the least interesting for me. Mint note rather in the background, therefore a somewhat more unspecific profile. Nevertheless, of course, a very good rum with nice alcohol integration.

The aroma is delicately menthol with mint. Some fruit, creamy vanilla. In the taste, the combo of mint and menthol is already pronounced and again creamy vanilla ice cream. Mint finish, not very pronounced. The mint is great in this. What I'd criticise is a little too much roundness and less depth for me.

Duel with Jury Whisky 2003 62.3° C 1st nose (5min rest) - whisky jury: alcoholic pep, brown sugar, tangy red fruits mingled in the barrel. The whole is rather greedy. - Nobilis: less alcohol and, above all, lots of vanilla, bringing freshness. In the background, there's greediness, with brown sugar and a hint of stewed fruit. - Differences: less nobilis pep and more vanilla. The sweetness is present in both juices with the brown sugar effect. On the whiksy jury, there's more tart red fruit, while on the nobilis, the fruit is more mellow and compote-like. 2nd nose (30min) - whisky jury: bitter almond and peanut butter appear. Peach and brown sugar take a back seat. There's also a hint of freshness with lemon basil and lemongrass. A complex, balanced nose of fruit, sweetness, alcohol and acidity. 9/10 - nobilis: vanilla is still present, and the bitterness of wood appears. There's also a hint of almond in the form of frangipane. The nose is less fresh and seems heavier than its counterpart. 8.5/10 Palate : - whisky jury: more pungent entry on the alcohol, the alcohol is less well integrated. Initially, there's a lot of peach and a hint of milk chocolate. Acidity arrives gradually, with its share of redcurrant and peachy sweetness. 8/10 - nobilis: a very tart, granny-smith apple-like entry, followed by nuts and peach-filled frangipane 8/10 Finish: - whisky jury: very peach and milk chocolate-centered finish. The wood is not very present. Very greedy finish in line with the palate. 8/10 -nobilis: cherry stone topped with milk chocolate. Exceptional finish 9/10

I get the typical notes of menthol and mint on the nose accompanied by spices and dried fruit. The taste is not as minty and brings some lovely peach. Overall a very good T.D.L.

Nose: much more fruit. Fruit paste, lemon / lemon fruitella. Sure fruit, kiwi-style. Peach also stands out quite a bit. Lots of vanilla. Menthol is present in the background. Herbaceous, like freshly mowed grass. Caramel / crème brûlée side very present. Palate: fruit, compote, peach, lots of lemon too. Bitterness/acidity. Caramel / cane sugar syrup in full force on the second palate. Slight hydrocarbon note too. Vanilla all-encompassing. Finish: bitterness with fruit (peach) and citrus (lemon). Woodiness on the finish too, which I didn't have much of in the mouth or on the nose.

Nose: Peach, caramel, strawberry, mint, raisin, varnish, vanilla Mouth: Peach, mint, raspberry, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, bubblegum Finish: Very strong initial burst of flavour and then fades to a medium finish An absolutely beautiful rum. It has a very intense creamy peach flavour while mint lingers behind with other notes coming in and out. The nose, while a bit restrained, manages to match the palate well. A seriously enjoyable sip.
