Beautiful bottling, better than expected. Clear markers from Barbados recognizable. Beautiful rum from Mount Gay, makes you want more. Very interesting both neat and as a mixer. Many thanks to SaibotZtar for convincing me to take a sample of it. It was a good decision. But for me as a Foursquare fanboy, it's still a Mount Gay, because there used to be this irritation.

Amazingly fruity . Coconut, orange and dried fruit... Somewhat musty woody but somehow interesting and delicious . I'm not really a big Barbados fan but it's delicious. It's also for me 100% not a Foursquare but a Mount Gay that you smell and taste immediately ... very enjoyable 😋

Tasted in direct comparison with the RX5519 (Mount Gay Master Blender Collection Pot Still 48%). There are parallels, although the RX5519 brings a bit more medicinal notes and the TWJ has more roasted/charred notes. For me, the TWJ has the edge in the end, although neither really convinced me.

A very positively surprising rum for me! The classic Mount Gay profile is already there - but there is much more! The dilution is perfectly chosen. In addition to the relaxed Mount Gay profile, there is a certain sweetness and slight smokiness. It actually reminds me of a Rockley. Somehow a blend of a Mount Gay and a Rockley. Very, very exciting!

Nose: medium level of glue, but foremost very fruity: banana, orange, papaya, dried apricot. Coconut, curry, a bit of honey, cigar box. The nose is really convincing: fruity, complex, but also with enough depth. Taste: the taste is more on wood and spice, but the fruit remains present. Ginger, curry, wood, maybe some wood smoke. Then mostly on orange and tangerine, a bit of glue, coconut, black tea, olive and oil. Finish: long, pleasant, with warming spice and wood, fruit and a nice green side. 83 p.

#5564 16.08.2025 Reæaxing to some nice music after coming back from Flensburg. Nose Fresh, lightly sweet, light caramel, pineapple, spice, light roasted, light wood, light medicinal, light berries. Palate Oily, round, naturally sweet, light wood, light roasted, faint orange, light anise, light coconut, light caramel, faint nutts. Finish Medium long, oily, light wood, naturally sweet, faint coconut, light mineral, faint chocolate. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, light cherry, light coconut, light floral.

A rather accessible old Mount Gay from The Whisky Jury. The alcohol is better integrated than, for example, in the two Mount Gay from the Habitation Velier series. Fruity, spicy, a bit of menthol and wood.

Edit: after drinking a whole bottle, I think it's fine. A rather classic Barbados pastry profile (brioche, vanilla, coconut, caramel). The mineral/metallic touch that I felt mostly at the beginning has evolved into a roasted and empyreumatic side. Consistent nose and palate. Classic Barbados markers. The nose is lighter and fresher. The palate is woody, especially on the finish. Alcohol very well integrated. Very easy to drink. Very pleasant but not very surprising or progressive. High price for what it is. Not a Foursquare but a gay mount.

Tasted at Liquid Leuven ‘23, so my review remains rather concise. A captivating nose which opens sweet and spicy before becoming atypically medicinal. Starts with a combination of caramel-dipped coconut chunks and cask spices. Perhaps even some blueberries. Then quickly cool and musty with resin, licorice and orange gratings. After a while in the glass it evolves towards a mineral aroma of rock-sprawled river, seabreeze and… clingwrap. Incredible evolution. In the mouth clearly less oily, less medicinal, and steered back into regular MG profile. The taste is sweet and woody, with caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and coconut husks. Hints of balsamic. Malt dominant with a tad of coffee and roasted nuts. A little bit of camphor and minerality survives onto the palate, but much less than wished for. The finish is rather short and very sweet with brown sugar. A fabulous aroma that I could smell for ages, but unfortunately did not entirely make it onto the palate.

The scent is a bit shy but quite pleasant and immediately piques my interest with its combination of plant-like fruit aromas and lightly charred oak with subtle lacquer fumes. On the taste, the rum then shows its full strength. Very varied, it changes from fruits to fine oak aromas with spices to a caramel-chocolate-cocoa-vanilla-coconut mix. A very nice and mature Mount Gay!

06/02/2026: Road Rummers S09T03 @ TasTToe. Not the first time tasting this bottling, and still quite a fan of this Mount Gay. For a rum from Barbados, it has a very interesting profile. I particularly like the finish of it.

Ok, it's Mount Gay. Nose: Lot of fruits. Orange, banana, red apples, grape, mandarin, mango & some rhubarb. Hint of mint or menthol. Sandal wood, polish, glue, paint, hay & Lot of parfume. Great ! Taste: rich & fruity. Orange peels, oranges, mandarin, apples, grape, kumquat. Some sandal wood, minty, glue, minerals, polish & nuts. Yummy. Aftertaste: tropic fruits, glue, hay, mint, tea, pears, roots. Mostly orange zest & kumquat. Wonderful.
