Franconian Rum Tasting Gang / 2024-04-19: Neisson Straight from the Barrel No. 26 vs. No. 252 vs. Depaz 2002 Barrel 706 The two Neisson bottlings are tasty but not really complex. You can tell their relatively short aging time. Some floral, some citrus fruits, butter soft. No. 252 a bit better than No. 26. But neither comes close to the Depaz, which is wonderfully complex and clearly shows its maturity.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 19.04.2024 In the Agricole Battle, Neisson Straight from the Barrel No.26, No.252 and the Depaz CS 2002 Barrel 706 (which here is the unfair opponent) compete. No.26 can be drunk, is already good, No.252 is somewhat better but the Depaz clearly wins here against the other two. It is simply a different league.

A young Neisson at a crossroads. The profile has taken influences from the cask during aging but retains the touch of the unaged profile. Sugarcane, citrus, and fresh notes border the nose with more toasted notes, on a slightly marked woodiness, hazelnuts but also more pastry notes on biscuit and honey. There is also tobacco, spices (vanilla, pepper, nutmeg), and dried fruits (dates). An exciting and balanced profile. On the palate, it is a complete and lively agricole rum making its entrance. The young wood, herbal notes (on the cane), and spices set the tone, followed by dried fruits, citrus, and rounder notes of caramel, biscuit, and honey. The juice gains amplitude over time. The alcohol is well integrated in this dry but varied profile. The finish is of good length, with beautiful notes of sugarcane, tobacco, vegetal notes, wood, and spices. The dried fruits and citrus come at the end of the mouth with a bit of honey, present throughout the tasting. It is an intermediate profile that has the attributes of the distillate while benefiting from the advantages of aging. An interesting experience for Neisson, which is establishing a range of premium young rums on the market.

On the nose: Woody and vanilla notes at first, but pretty soon fresh canejuice notes come in aswell. Little bit of vanilla and spices. Balanced. Taste: Woody and mainly pepper notes at first. Then you get fresh canejuice notes mixed in. Citrus notes like lemon peel. The body gets some herbal/roasted notes. The abv is integrated very well. Finish: Sugarcane, herbal, vegetal. Dry. Smooth. Nice, fresh canejuice notes mixed in with spice notes from the barrel.

Our Agricole flight tonight: Neisson straight from the barrel no26 vs. No252 vs. (a bit unfair) the Depaz cask strength 2002 barrel 706 26 is quite nice, 252 I like a bit better but the Depaz is the clear, distinctly more mature and more interesting winner with a great nose (with a very slight jackfruit/overripe mango) and palate.

Very sweet honey vanilla no length too bad

A nose between the Neisson 105 and the 107. The muddiness of the 105, and the butteriness of the 107. Then the same herbaceous, fresh, sugar-cane framework. On the palate, it's the same, but less woody than the 105, and less toasty. The woodiness is rather damp, fresh, vegetal, pastry-like, buttery and slightly spicy. It has the same structure as the other 2 profiles, with a lively mouthfeel at first. But I prefer the 105, which is younger and less expensive.
