Most tasters land in the "good value for a two-year-old" camp, though a couple find it too hot to sip straight. It's a young cask-strength cane-juice rum from Mauritius aged in a Jamaican barrel: lots of honey, fresh-cut grass, a little smoke, plus tropical fruit, brown sugar and pepper. Wild and unpolished, with real heat that softens once you give it air.

Nice thing for the price and age. Lots of honey, some grass, some smoke. And that's with only 2 years and lots of power. Great value for money.

7,7:On the nose, alcoholic, intense, grassy, flowery sugarcane, roasted wood with marzipan, caramel, spicy, dried fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the rum gets balanced, buttery, as new notes neutralize strong alcohol, like chocolate, vanilla, sugarcane honey and vanilla, green fruits. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is intense, slightly alcoholic, furry, sweet with sugar notes, as the cane is vegetal, candied, fermented, fresh, grassy with hay, flowery and herbaceous, the wood roasted with caramel, chocolate, marzipan, peppery, salty and fruits green, tropical, dried. 7,8:The finish is medium long, dry, furry, with roasted oak, spicy, sweet sugar cane, grassy, herbaceous, vegetal and tropical fruits.

Compared to some bottlings from Mauritius that Gunnar has already "forced" on us here, this one unfortunately can't keep up. Not much was expected for the price. Overall too alcoholic for me, so the rest was sunk in cola, but even there it couldn't convince.

Great value for money from Hildesheim. The DNA from Mauritius comes through very well despite the Jamaica cask. Nice and mild despite the high alcohol content with a slight sweetness. A 2-year-old rum, slightly wild and unruly. I like it very much.

Very strong rum that despite its young age offers a variety of different aromas on the palate. Still very vegetal on the nose, a bit too strong alcohol-wise. On the palate primarily sweet, spicy and tropical fruits, but also a bit salty, woody and vegetal. I like the finish almost the most. Brown sugar, herbs and tropical fruits.
