This is not an outstanding Caroni, but quite successful! The nose is still the most pronounced with the typical markers. The palate, on the other hand, falls off a bit but is still recognizable as Caroni, even if not intense. However, the finish is disappointing for me, as it is far too short and not really expressive.

Caroni as it shouldn't be: thin, flavorless, some wood, some fruit. The official tasting notes are not understandable to me at all. The best thing about this rum by far is the label on the bottle.

Alcohol very well integrated, flavor-wise a rounded, complex '97, leaning more towards the '98 vintage. I like it a lot!

While I like the nose and do get some dirty Caroni notes there, the palate is more of a let down unfortunately. I do get Mokka, dark chocolate, wood and the slightest hints of dirt and menthol, delivery is very soft and feels very much watered down. Intensity and complexity are very much missing. It is not a horrible Rum per se, but definitely no got to Caroni for me. Cheers to zabo for digging this one up and sharing some samples! 💪

The typical dirty Caroni notes are missing here, on the nose it's more fruity, a bit like Le blog à Roger, but nowhere near as intense and complex... but also not as bad as Felicite Gold, etc. However, for the price asked, there are definitely much better rums. Many thanks to Zabo for the split!

This rum has two sides. On one hand, I consistently find typical Caroni markers in the nose, mouth, and palate. But then there's something that's just missing. Like there's a hole in the middle of everything. Mocha, menthol, burnt sugar, fruit gum, woody but also acidity and herbs. Relatively thin on the palate. But still unmistakably Caroni.

The nose is nice with gasoline, dirt, wood, nuts and burnt sugar. On the palate unfortunately very thin and watery without Caroni-specific highlights. Also somehow not quite coherent. A good rum but a comparatively weak Caroni. Thanks Jörg for sharing.

Cross-tasting 1997 Caronis from continental aging: Solid 97 Caroni with a distinctive aromatic play on the nose. Lots of typical Heavy Caroni associations with burnt rubber, barrel, dark spices, leather, and licorice. Gradually, clear fruity hints also come through. Unfortunately, the palate doesn't quite keep up; what starts off fairly aromatic becomes increasingly thin and shows a rather short half-life. The alcohol is flawlessly integrated, but the suspicion that it was diluted too much arises. A small downside, but still a good and pleasantly drinkable Caroni – can you already call it accessible?

When I accidentally discovered this grab bag and then realized there are only 60 bottles of it, I couldn't resist. Expectations were naturally high. Unfortunately, these could not really be met to compete with other Caroni releases. My conclusion: It is a very fine rum, which is certainly wonderful for daily sipping. Unfortunately, you have to admit that it tastes very thin and watered down. If the price were not 300€ but up to about 100€, I would even buy another bottle. The label is still the highlight.

On the nose and first sip an absolutely acceptable, though not outstanding, Caroni. The finish is definitely too thin, which significantly weakens the rating. After previous reviews, I expected worse; on the other hand, for the price asked, you can of course get much better rums.
