Anyone chasing loud, funky Fiji should look elsewhere — this 19-year-old leans quiet and rounded. Expect vanilla, tropical fruit, coconut and sweet oak, with a drier, spiced-wood opening before the fruit and bourbon sweetness take over. Several tasters call it fruity and well-balanced, but plenty note it drinks more like a Barbados or Spanish-style rum than a real Fiji.

8,1:On the nose, medicinal, light esters, petrol, slightly dirty, roasted wood notes like caramel, nuts, sweet, banana and dried fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, peaches arise, some chocolate, molasses is floral. 8:On the palate, the attack is slightly dry with cognac barrel finish, tannic, bourbon barrel impact is obvious, the wood is roasted with pastry, nuts, chocolate, spicy with allspice, vanilla, oily, leather joins, fruity with tropical, dried and citrus fruits, medicinal, molasses is floral. 8:The finish is medium long, dry and tannic, with roasted wood notes like pastry, chocolate, spicy with allspice, fruity with dried, tropical, citrus fruits, grapes, molasses is floral, earthy.

17.11.2023 Another retasting and I still think that price to quality is pretty good. ---------- #4116 First off, the price to quality is very good in my mind. A fruity rum with nice balance in wood and spices. The palate is warm, sweet and oily. There is a nice floral touch to the profile. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is nice with some smoke and coconut.

Tasting 18/4-24 Peters Vin. Nose: Dried fruit,vanilla, little coconut. Taste: Again some different fruits, citrus, red berries, banana. Finish: Some dryness, caramel, oak and a light smokiness. A rum well worth the price.

A Fiji Plantation with a fair amount of sweetness and wisdom for its advanced age. The nose evokes exotic fruits with a floral touch, followed by medicinal esters. Woody vanilla, roasted notes and spices complete a profile that's simple enough in itself, but effective in its register. The attack on the palate is a little drier, marked by spicy wood and lightly roasted notes. There are almost tannin-like notes. Later, the fruitiness and sweetness of the bourbon come to the fore, becoming dominant in the glass. A nice profile on the palate, but lacks vivacity, life and personality, which is a shame given the age of the juice. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is relatively long, but offers nothing new in terms of smell or taste. Floral and medicinal notes mingle with exotic fruits, while sweet spices and woodiness try to break through, but to no avail in this aromatic masquerade. A profile from the One Time series, which I'd also only drink once, due to its lack of fantasy.

Bold and sour taste with quince, citrus peel and coconut, followed by balsamic and cinnamon. Long aftertaste of smoked molasses, cocoa, almond, cherry, apple and cloves.

Fiji night, yes, I'm curious what awaits us on site next year. This rum is also relatively sweetish, especially vanilla is recognizable. But it is also somewhat roasted and woody.

A quite nice and tasty Fiji rum, although rather untypical and more Spanish-like or reminiscent of Barbados rum. Chocolate, coffee, mocha and caramel meet lemon peel, cherry and banana. Definitely drinkable. For the price, definitely. But overall, for a Fiji rum, rather one-dimensional and not quite as expressive and intense.

The 2004 vintage from Fiji is truly a phenomenon - it has absolutely nothing to do with the typical Fiji profile. Boring, little flavor, lots of neutral alcohol. This is also the case here.

I didn't really have Fiji on my radar as a rum-producing country. But climatically, it makes sense, and they say the water is pretty good too 😅, so I gave a Fiji rum a try, it's already got a few years on it. Now, the nose isn't really my thing with those varnish and glue notes. The taste is supposed to make up for it: vanilla and chocolate paired with nice barrel notes. Solid good rum!

Read full review ›It’s an interesting and pleasant rum, but it will be appreciated more by at least slightly advanced rum fans. Its strength and rough character of Fiji is definitely not for everyone, but I think someone with considerable rum experience will appreciate the strong notes of coffee, pepper, and light smokiness. I admit I’m glad I could enjoy it calmly rather than in the Rumfest atmosphere where it didn’t impress me.
