Warehouse #1 Hampden Overproof Jamaica Rum Legendary Marques DOK

The surprise here is how much wood shows up for a rum aged just one year — virgin oak pushes tannins, plum and cinnamon forward, sometimes crowding out the fruit. Underneath it's full DOK Hampden: wild esters, glue, nail polish, mango and pineapple. At 64.7% it's hot but not brutal. A few tasters wished the fruit and funk stayed louder against all that oak.

The community says
  • Huge ester power
  • Tropical fruit funk
  • Keep in mind: Dominant oak

Wild DOK funk with surprising young oak Loved by DOK fans for its ester power and glue-and-fruit funk, though several note the young virgin-oak wood turns dominant and slightly muffles the tropical side.

Young and wild . I really like the Mark DOK !!! Alcohol very present but not too disturbing. Concentrated ester power. For the very young age there is also a lot of wood. A bomb in May Tai ... very tasty.

Of course, there are plenty of esters at play here. Between lots of glue and solvent, you can smell sweet fruits, especially berries. Also cinnamon. On the palate, dry and rough, with a bit of wood actually.

01.07.2025 Retasting and it's still pretty good. ---------------- #5093 Sunday - The last shots before our partners are picking us up 😊 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Light to medium dark. Nose Medium intense, fruity, overripe, light prunes, spice, ester, light glue, cherry. Palate Intense, light wood, faint roasted, ester, light polish, fruity, overripe, light tannins, light plum, warm. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, tannins, fruity, light banana, light cherry, ester, light anise. Empty glass Wood, light licorice, spice, light citrus, faint chocolate. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up properly.

A great Hampden at the end of the day, not the best rum today, but still really good. Typical Jamaican on the nose, tropical fruit and lots of esters, plus some glue and solvent. On the palate it also becomes a little woody. Top rum. Delicious, I love DOK's ;-)

I find the nose very pleasant and funky. The esters, the glue and the solvents are all quite funky, but in a positive way. On the palate, I'm surprised by the dominant woodiness. The fruit and funk take a back seat. That deducts points. Unfortunately, this dominance continues on the palate. Unfortunately, the nose promised more than was ultimately revealed

The plums and cinnamon are pretty strong in this one. In addition there is the expected Hampden funkiness with the intense wood from virgin oak. Loads of vanilla, tanines and buttered cake. It works really good altogether, neat or as a daiquiri.

Very strong aroma, wild fun strong esters, a lot of wood in taste and smell for a young rum. It should stay in the cask for at least another 3-4 years and it would be a hit. If it was still available to me I would probably save one bottle for later.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Superb nose of a nice dock, almost calm (despite still the wild side of the dock) and balanced. Funky with typical fruits, glue and a nice dose of esters. The palate confirms, with a nice presence of wood and almost roasted fruits. Nice finish. The cask worked well to give an amazing maturity for such a young rum.

This is a wild ride. What else to expect from a DOK you ask? The combo of DOK and virgin cask make it into a wild ride. You will find the typical DOK markers like tropical fruits, solvents etc. but also cinnamon and liquorice from the virgin cask in the finish. It drinks quite hot but it is forgiven because of its provenance. As much as I like it, I would probably use it as a mixer (somebody said Mai Tai?) since this demands so much attention to sip that you will not reach for it often otherwise. DOK on steroids, who could have thought it was possible. Warehouse #1 did it.
