Eminente Confrérie du Rhum x Excellence Rhum (Batch 2) 2012

Wood and tobacco lead here, with caramel, orange and a cola-like sweetness underneath. It's a Cuban column-still rum bottled at cask strength, and the higher proof gives it more body and grip than the usual soft Cuban. Several tasters found the nose lovely but the palate a touch flat — a nice wood-tobacco mix that doesn't build to much on the finish. Astringent, drier than Batch 1.

The community says
  • Wood and tobacco
  • Fuller cask-strength body
  • But: Flat, short finish

How does Eminente Confrérie du Rhum x Excellence Rhum (Batch 2) 2012 taste?

Aggregated from 25 community reviews.

Woody, tobacco-heavy Cuban at cask strength Most find it genuinely interesting — a fuller, woodier take on Cuban rum. The catch: the palate and finish underwhelm some, reading a bit disharmonious or watery next to the promising nose.

Cuban-rum fans who want more wood, tobacco and cask-strength grip

The nostalgic impression of falling back into adolescence with coca rums. It's strange because I can't drink rum and coke with pleasure any more, but despite this sensation, I drink this rum with pleasure... It's true that there's a little more balance and body, which makes this rum more interesting. And the promise of a nice accompaniment to a cigar is fulfilled: it goes very well/

So this is how a rum tastes that consists of 100% aguardiente (a first for a Cuban distillate, as far as I know). And indeed: Something comparable I had not yet in the glass. Blind I would not have been able to assign the rum at all. In this first tasting, I focused on finding differences between Batch 1 and Batch 2. And they are indeed there: While Batch 1 gets going right away fruity-floral on the nose, Batch 2 is clearly more timid, more discreet. On the palate, however, it's the other way around: Batch 1 tends to confirm the impression gained on the nose, coming across like a light rum in a summer meadow with a gentle breeze blowing over it. Batch 2 is different: While Batch 1 seems somehow slightly broad, Batch 2 is clearly more astringent and has more depth, more wood and tobacco. On the latter, one could perhaps recognize the Cuban DNA - but only maybe.Overall, both are solid rums and which one tastes more, is probably dependent on the day or what weight you attach to the olfactory impression. Because of the interesting transformation from the nose to the palate, Batch 2 is a point ahead for me today. As I said, a very exciting bottling of Excellence Rhum and La Confrérie du Rhum. But if one wanted to dare at least a geographical comparison: To the long-stored consistently exquisite 98s of Sanct Spíritus ((Cuba) reach both batches not yet.

Save.

No, jsem příjemně překvapen.

Belly 2 has significantly less fruitiness to offer. Overall, however, it is much quicker on the nose. Again, I don't really know what to do with it. But of course very exciting to try. Overall, a small upgrade of both batches.

I like it. I like every type of Eminente. It is tasty spanish type of rum. I was kind of dissapointed by 10 years old batch, but than I tried this. It is perfect! Perfect spanish type of rum from Cuba. I enjoy it very much and I could easily sip whole bottle in two days.

Cuba taught the world to drink rum light. This is the island that gave us the Daiquiri, the Mojito and Bacardi, and the smooth, column-distilled Spanish style that became the most popular rum on earth. Today its rum is entirely state-run and shut out of the United States, yet Havana Club still ranks among the Caribbean's biggest brands.
