Montebello La Rencontre finish Puligny Montrachet This agricole rum from Guadeloupe was aged 7 years including 236 days in a Puligny Montrachet barrel vintage 2010. It was released in 620 bottles and has an alcohol content of 46.8°. Its color is quite dark, a nice mahogany. The nose surprises with its gourmandise and the mark of the white Burgundy barrel. The rum presents scents of white grape with a slight woodiness. Notes of licorice and nuts line the nostrils in addition to a very fresh and pleasant fruitiness. There is a bit of golden apple in the background. The palate is round, soft, all fruity without being able to determine a very particular fruit, except again these aromas of white wine which really marked the rum. It is complex and easy to drink. The finish is in the low average without it being a real problem. A slight acidity gives pep with also the return of this quite young oak in taste. One might have expected that such an old agricole rum (11 years after all) would be marked by the barrel but it is not. It is very gourmand and presents very fresh notes. While it is very good, its price is quite stratospheric, which lowers its rating.

Very beautiful rum with a typical Montebello framework that the finish comes to sublime. I find candied orange, gingerbread, raisins, caramel, and a slight smokiness.

The complexity of this tum is incredible. The smell is very noble, with fruits and raisins. The beginning is very soft, with a full fruity body, wood and spicy will come later. In the aftertaste is agricole grass, sugar cane, wine and wood, it is medium dry and long.

It's always a pleasure to try these Montebello pairings, some of which are so successful. Here, aging in old Burgundy wine barrels is noticeable both on the nose and on the palate. It brings plenty of fruit and sweetness. But a little too much grape for my taste. A little too marked for my taste.
