OMG - 80.6% with such high esters is a deadly combination. You can’t breathe for a while. Even "worse" feeling than my first experience with Reunion "Lava". Hampden is a distillery producing incredibly fragrant rums. That’s why part of its production is also used as a base raw material for perfumes. I recommend tasting the gentle yet incredibly rich older rums aged 20 years or more, or very young rums with a high ester component called DOK. Don’t be afraid of the high alcohol volume ;)

An explosive nose due to the 80.5%, esters are first. But there's also young wood, pineapple and other tropical fruits, and a slightly dirty side. The palate is violent, but the alcohol, though very present, does not dominate. The fruit is there, along with a little wood. The finish is short and dominated by wood and dirt. Interesting for its excessive ABV on paper but tolerable in real life, and its evolutivity on the palate.

At first this is bomb of esters. And who is afraid of 80 doesn’t have to be scared anymore..because it’s completely integrated. I would say 55 or 58% Anyway…the color is like a honey - yellow to brown. The nose- full of esters and then wood and sweet fruits…promising The taste - awesome- esters esters and esters and warm sweet marshmallows..after first sip the aftertaste was really long and warm with woody tones. Later it’s medium but still great. Yeah I admit that I am Jamaica fan..so anything from Hamden works for me…

Young Hampden, where the higher proof is noticeable. Classic profile - tropical fruit, esters, already promises wildness in the nose and warms nicely in the mouth. I probably wouldn't use the whole bottle, but as a curiosity within the calendar, why not.

Pavel Špaček tasting calendar 4 2024 Clear Hampden and high proof. Properly perfumed gem. As soon as you take a little sniff, the glass fills with brutal marzipan that overshadows the fruit that should be there, but in this case that doesn't matter at all... Exceptionally well integrated alcohol, I wouldn't guess 80% at all. Only when swallowing did my head spin a bit 🤣. The second strongest thing I've ever had.
