Sip this one neat and slow — it needs time in the glass to open. The nose is the good part: citrus, gooseberry, cherry-wood and a faint honey. The palate is where opinions split, turning spicy, salty, tannic and drying, with anise and woody-nutty notes. A few tasters found it thin and hot for its 25 years; others liked the roasted, mineral complexity. Light Clarendon, not a funk bomb.

#4603 07.02.2024 online tasting with Rest & Be Thankful. Nose Faint roasted wood, fruits, floral, light mint, faint nutts. Palate Oily, smooth, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, anise, light mint and caramel. Finish Medium long, light wood, anise, dried fruit, light nutts. Wery thick slow moving curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some light varnish, smoke and raisin.

Retasting of the three Clarendon Low Ester bottlings from the Rest & Be Thankful tasting. Also an AHJ... as with the other AHJ it has a nice nose but pinches a bit on the palate. Personally, I like the MBK best of the three, but overall the higher marks (MPG, MMW) are much better.

Master tasting by Rest & Be Thankful via RumX In my opinion, this MM has a flaw on the nose.., I can't exactly describe it, but it bothers me a lot! The palate is very spicy and woody, licorice and pepper are also noticeable. The finish matches the palate. This MM and I just don't get along.

The surprisingly light rum for its age starts very fruity on the nose, partly fermented, and offers many other facets in medium and low intensity! On the palate, however, very disappointing for me: a strong alcoholic - almost spirit-like - note meets me first here. Then spices and tannins together with brine come to the fore and also carry over into the finish. Later I perceive the (fermented) fruits again. Good rum but doesn't really suit my taste, it's too much on the salty, dry, and tannin-rich side.

After the RumX R&BT tasting on 7.2., tasted the rest again more calmly: As the fourth rum again an AHJ. Despite the higher ABV, this one seems milder and more accessible to me than the predecessor. On the nose gooseberry-meringue, orange, currants and cherry wood. On the palate sweet-spicy.

Tasted during the RumX masterclass. Huge thanks the guys from R&BT for presenting their range! Very nice exploration of some low(we) ester marks. While some of the noses were a little light, the long aged expressions are very interesting on the palate across the board. Very interesting! :) Less fruits than the other AHJ in the line up. Quite salty on the nose and palate.

Since I unfortunately couldn't be at the tasting, thanks to the German Rail, I'm catching up calmly now. From the first impression, something bothers me about this one. Rather one of the weaker ones in the round.

RumX/Kirsch online tasting Rest&Be Thankful! A 25-year-old Mony with the AHJ mark. With just under 90 gr/hlpa this roughly corresponds to the MBK mark and is a light pot. Nose: fine and elegant, but initially also alcoholically fresh. Citrus fruits dominate, especially lemon, but also sweet-sour gooseberry and currant. Fragrant cherry wood and a fine honey note come in, it gets sweeter towards the end and even a slight smokiness. With patience and time a fine stuff. 8.4 Palate: intense, spicy, with anise and slightly bacon-like, also woody-bitter and salty at the start, grapefruit peel. Creamier at the back, but citrus fruits and bacon-like wood remain. Quite delicate for the high age. I would have guessed it younger, which is clearly due to the low ester content and the light profile. For me too weak on the palate. 7.9

Great fruity nose with a hint of glue. On the palate, however, not much fruit comes through, woody notes dominate. There are also some salted nuts. These roast-salt notes remain dominant on the tongue and bother me in this rum. Overall, one of the weaker ones from the tasting.

Although the fruit notes are quite one-dimensional with apple and citrus, this Monymusk scores with its appealing, round smell, pleasant mouthfeel, and the spicy-sweet hint of candied ginger. Added to that are a few salty moments and a subtle woody smoky finish. In my eyes, not worth the asking price, but a relaxed and easy sipper.

Impressive aromatic palette full of fruits, wood, roasted bitter aromas, chocolate and mineral, almost salty accompaniment - rich complexity. It goes into demanding territory with its bitterness and salt notes, definitely not an easy sipper - the complexity appeals to me, even if it's not a rum for every evening.

Bright stone fruits on the nose, rather weak. Hints of vanilla & spices on the background. Young bananas. Light smoke. Rather spicy on the palate, with creamy/butterscotch notes. Medium long finish. Like the MBK better. A bit bitter, rating it down.

There were five different Clarendon monymusk bottled by Rest&Be thankful mostly in the low ester range comparatively. The winner for me RX18817-->Mark MMW with esters of 224.2 gr/hlpa is the highest value I have, leading in front, then it gets somewhat tight behind. Actually, I find this bottling the hardest. There's a lot of vanilla at play but it feels somewhat artificial. Also probably the driest rum in comparison and ultimately not my thing.

A nice drop. Quite complex with lots of fruit, wood but also nice spice. The alcohol is very well integrated. Unfortunately, I personally find the price-performance ratio not justified. No question it's good but not that good.

Initially quite closed on the nose. Then it opens up and reveals salty and citrus fruit aromas. Added to that is a well-fitting wood spice that gives the whole thing that certain something. Works well for me, but the price will probably be high again. 87/100 or 6/10 PS: My scale conflicts with the local one. All in all, for me the rum is "fully good."

Part of the Rest & Be Thankful tasting (thanks to RumX and F.L.O. for sharing). Nice and interesting event. All candidates had a very nice nose. I liked the LSO and MPG profiles best. Overall, I often missed the tropical aging.

Here, compared to before, the glue slowly comes into play. Medicinal, chemical, dirty, and above all riper in the fruit notes. Clearly thicker, heavy sweetness, ripe fruits on the palate. I'm starting to really like this.

What went wrong with the aging here? 24+ years, almost 60%, but hardly any color and extremely thin on the nose. Although elegant red berries, but too dry and sharp in the mouth, variously spicy, but far from balanced. I can't recommend this one.
