We had a really fantastic masterclass with Mika from Swell. The session was extremely informative and the rums truly excellent! We tasted this Belize twice. Once as 45% of the blend RX16704 and once as a single cask. The single cask has 11 years of tropical aging. Belize is usually not my preferred profile, but I found this one unusually complex and intense. Besides the typical coconut, there are a range of yellow fruits, Christmas spices, and a distinct roastiness. On the palate, the picture is very similar, intense dried mango and yellow fruits dominate alongside the coconut. Unlike the Long Pond in the blend, the alcohol here is fantastically integrated. This rum was my surprise of the evening, easily the best Belize I've tried. Excellent rum.

RumX and Swell de Spirit online tasting, March 2024. Dark on the nose, with woody notes, but also fresh with menthol and pastry-like with vanilla and coconut. The attack is quite lively, with pastry, umami, vanilla and pineapple taking center stage. The touch of varnish adds depth. For me, the finish is a little disappointing, as it feels shortened despite its balance and complexity. The empty glass reveals a vegetal, tobacco and even floral side, absent from the palate and nose.

My first sample after Dry November. Nice color! At first lacquer and polish, this dissipates after about 20 minutes. Plenty of nougat, vanilla and gingerbread, some dried fruits, some woodiness and spice. Nicely balanced, very very strong. 💦 is necessary. Don’t skimp on water. Now comes freshness/menthol and citrus and tropical fruits. Uff, still too strong in the mouth despite water. More woodiness and lots of chocolate. The finish a highlight. Warm, spicy, chocolate. Very nice high-end sipper focused on nougat. A proper strong guy, plenty of water needed. I like it very much and am glad I bought a bottle. By the way, the label is also very nice.🤩

The nose is engaging. Pastry and gourmand. Also some coconut. As well as a well-present woodiness. On the palate, it's surely very good but I'm totally resistant to these rums that do me harm in the esophagus. I understand that it pleases because it is complex as desired but it is definitely too strong for me. Edit: tested with a bit of water and I find it much more pleasant. Lots of intensity. An extremely buttery and fatty mouth. Coconut, caramel, chili. Beautiful complexity. I definitely don't understand why such a rum is not reduced.

Swell Masterclass RumX 28.03.2024 Actually, after the last round with DomM, I had mentally moved on from the profile since the bottlings didn't grab me at all. But this one actually tastes pretty good to me.

A Travellers that will try to make you succumb either by its power or its gourmandise. The nose is very gourmand for the displayed alcohol degree, which goes unnoticed here. A strong smell of mango, coconut and other tropical fruits escapes the glass, followed by a good dose of sweet spices, chocolatey, caramelized and slightly roasted notes. Toffee and butter caramel also make an effect. A very round and welcoming profile. On the palate, opulence is the rule. The fruitiness is highlighted with coconut, pineapple, banana but especially mango, even more expressive here. The spices are gourmand and warm, while caramel, toffee and cookie dough give smoothness. Chocolate, coffee and roasted nuts are also present for the greatest pleasure of the taste buds. The alcohol is remarkably well integrated. The finish is long, still as round, opulent and generous. We find the dominant fruitiness, the spices and this pastry side that remains in the mouth with these slightly roasted notes in the background. A very nice selection from Swell de Spirits, less syrupy and more characterful than the one bottled for the Swell & Co series.

Bottlings from Travellers Distillery are usually quite similar, albeit consistently high quality. This rum delivers exactly what I expect from the distillery, but after a brief metallic bite on the palate, it develops a very pleasant creaminess with fine fruit and chocolate notes. A successful cask selection!

Vanilla crescent cookies and coconut macaroons and dried mango on the nose, mega! Extremely easy to drink on the palate, juicy like overripe extremely sweet mango, cinnamon coconut macaroons and a bit of mint and vanilla extract. Very very tasty, thick, oily and juicy! Definitely one of the most exciting and unusual Belize releases to date in my opinion!

In the nose the alcohol is a bit to present on this one. On the palate the high ABV however shows beautifully. Intense (and classic) Travellers notes with coconuts, cookie dough and quite some tropical fruits. Cheers to Mika and the RumX team for making the master class possible. Very nice line-up!

Belize at a great level: The nose is already very archetypal and convincing with a very appealing sweet melange of oak, vanilla, toffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel tops this impression with an extreme aromatic richness full of toffee, cookie dough and chocolate sweetness in combination with fruity notes and flanking influences of barrel notes and spices. Exquisite Belize rum.

Huh, my sample feels very thin and I wonder if I got the right rum here. The aromas of a Belize rum are basically there, but everything feels more like a 45% rum and not like 60%+. The second tasting hopefully brings some clarity: for this ABV the rum is really mild, a real surprise!

A dream, all the Spell of Spirits. This one differs from the others; it doesn't have that fruity taste but is rather a bit sweeter. Goes more towards cookies and biscuits here, can also taste vanilla.

Very nice selection from Swell de Spirits. Remarkable length. A classic Belize profile but super well made. Lots of yellow and tropical fruits on the nose, super pastry and vanilla. Power on the palate with the elements found on the nose plus a nice menthol taste. Slight bitterness on tobacco and pepper in the finish but not disturbing. Deserves good aeration but superb bottle. Edit: even after aeration it hits hard!!

Palate Spicy, wood, light roasted, naturally sweet, oily, faint chocolate, marzipan, dried fruit Finish Long and warm, wood, tannins, light caramel, light mint, citrus The empty glass has some cherry and light herbs.

Somehow I have to think of butter cookies and milk chocolate when I smell it. In taste, it is complemented by fruity notes like mango and coconut. In the finish, I like how the mango is embedded in cocoa butter. The first sip is maybe a bit sharp, but it quickly relaxes after a few minutes in the glass.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to take part in the master class. But now I'm making up for it step by step, starting with this Belize. Very tasty, with a smooth, almost silky structure on the palate. Larger sips reveal the typical Belize flavors, especially roasted almonds, without becoming mouth-filling or losing much of the previously mentioned structure. The finish could easily be longer =P Fantastic how well the alcohol is integrated here!

🍍 Belize – A shot of indulgence Amanda, the boss, is a friend, and I love this distillery. This rum? A little bomb. Indulgent, well defined, with that twist of exotic fruits that makes it completely addictive. Fun fact: this batch and the Long Pond were part of the ROA selection… Live test during the tasting? Who knows 😉

Very buttery on the nose and relatively good smelling to delicious. Palate very spicy and complex. Has a hint of vanilla with cookies. The finish is strong. The good one really lingers for a long time. Strong.

Nose: biscuit, speculoos, cookie? A real dessert right on the nose, alcohol invisible. Light coconut. Palate: real yellow fruits, super thick, spices, white pepper? Tobacco... it’s powerful nonetheless. Finish: fruits, coconut, vanilla, spices 8.7+ top but not that easy to drink though. Even if it packs a punch (because not reduced).

Here again a Travellers Swell from Spirits. The 68 percent is hardly noticeable. This rum tastes very much like biscuits or cookies. Also a bit of caramel and confectionery can be detected. Very tasty.

Another nugget from Swell de Spirits. A magnificent Belize. A very pastry-like profile, (vanilla éclair, mille feuille, raisin flan) fruity, (mango, fig, coconut), spicy, minty and a medium finish, on crème brûlée and fresh tobacco. It's very round and greedy despite the 68.1°. I think this Belize will impress a lot of people.

Nice Christmas rum :-) Butter cookie dough and vanilla on the nose make a nice dessert rum for the xmas season. On the palate the same game, plus very well integrated alcohol, but definitely some power in the finish. Thus clearly in the 8 range.

Quite typical. There is a bit too much alcohol in the cookie dough - but it has to be that way ;). For me personally a bit too little fruit. But extremely well integrated alcohol. I can recommend it, but today definitely not my favorite.

The nose is quite closed, with a bit of vanilla, coconut and a dark side. On the palate, it attacks frankly but pleasantly. On vanilla, a slight varnish, some spices, well caramelized brown sugar and a fatty, intense coconut oil. The finish is decent for a Belize. A very nice product, I love it. Bravo!
