The mint hits first and it does not let go — several tasters call this a full-on menthol bomb, like drinking concentrated peppermint tea rather than chewing leaves. Around it sit red berries, passion fruit, mango and old oak, with black tea and a floral, medicinal edge. At 63.5% the alcohol is a little sharp for some. Bold, angular, and short on subtlety but a lot of fun.

Once again a prime example of how awesome TDL Trinidad rums are. Floral fresh and really spicy. Awesome! Passion fruit, rose water, menthol and caramelized peach, as well as some allspice and chocolate. Compared to the "purple" representative (bottled for Perola - Germany) for Germany, this one is clearly more floral. Bomb stuff.

This CDI (and the Germany exclusive) is among the very first 2003 TDLs with the prominent menthol note, I hunted it for a long time and am very happy to try it. The profile is exciting: on one hand intense menthol notes and just fresh from the bottle some solvents, but not the heavy, dark aromas like the 2001 TDLs have, rather a very fruity facet. The aroma spectrum is very tropical with prominent passion fruit and mango, not so much the yellow stone fruit of the CDI 2003 cask. The mouth continues the profile, with typical tea and a bit more spicy depth than I expected from the nose. The alcohol is super integrated. The finish is, as often with TDLs, very long, fresh and minty. A great rum, at the RRP with a fantastic price-performance ratio.

Complex, multi-layered, intense. A real bomb! Rum the way I like it. Powerfully minty and with a long finish. For me, it moves in two vintage worlds (01/03) but with a much better balance. Cool bottling.

We have a real mint bomb/menthol bomb here. Compared to the Spirit Gallery TDL, this 2003 candidate comes across fresher and even more "menthol/minty". This somewhat comes at the expense of complexity, as these aromas are so intense on the palate that there is hardly room for other aromas. I really like the minty note, so I also like this bottling very much.

Actually a nice T.D.L bottling. Many strong typical mint and menthol notes. The taste lasts nicely long. The only thing that bothers me is that the alcohol is not quite well integrated. Unfortunately, it gets more bitter the more it breathes. Otherwise, a better rating would have been possible.

#5173 28.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, balanced, light wood, light mint, fruits, mango, light citrus, light caramel. Palate Fresh, light oily, light wood, faint roasted, fruits, light caramel, light banana, light citrus, light mint. Finish Long, round, balanced, light oily, light wood, fruits, light mint. Empty glass Caramel, light chocolate, spice, light mint, light medicinal. ABV is pretty well integrated and I love the mint note.

Very fruity and minty 2003 TDL. Lots of fruit with yellow fruits that become a bit redder and more tropical on the palate. Mint on the nose, which becomes more mentholated on the palate but also a not quite ideal alcohol integration on the palate. Still a great rum.

Tasted against TDL RC Ed. 44 / RX19670, TDL RA 2002 / RX7783 and TDL RdL 2002 / 15565. All 4 rums were allowed to breathe for about half an hour. Nose: The RC 44 is a bit closed on the nose, you can subtly detect light fruits and a very slight mint. The CDI 2003 is even more closed, only some mirabelle or peach is noticeable. For the RA 2002 I find a slight caramel note. The RdL 2002 is also quite closed, here I only find very light light yellow fruits. Palate: The RC 44 is comparatively herbal and bitter for a 2002, and less sweet. The light yellow fruits are somewhat in the background and it has more herbs instead. A bit of water doesn’t necessarily help it open further. The CDI 2003 is more floral, a bit fruitier and sweeter and also less bitter in comparison. The CDI 2003 also doesn’t necessarily get better with some water, but more drinkable. For the RA 2002 I find a slight caramel at first, then light fruits and a slight bitterness. With some water it opens up a bit more and becomes more drinkable. A nice, balanced combination of light yellow fruits and mint and in the background slight caramel, dirt and a herbal bitterness. The RdL 2002’s profile is very similar to the RA 2002, but for me it is a good bit more complex and refined, more nuanced. All aromas of the RA are present, but here lifted to a higher level. Some water helps to perceive the full spectrum of aromas even better. Simply a really great rum! Finish: The finish is about equally long for all 4 TDL, with the CDI 2003’s mint lasting a bit longer, the RA’s caramel and the RdL’s full aroma spectrum lingering. Ranking: 1. RdL 2002 / 89 points 2. RA 2002 / 87 points 3. CDI 2003 / 86 points 4. RC 44 / 85 points

La Compagnie des Indes has acquired quite a few TDLs and this one is a perfect example of the quality of the selection. The nose is a symphony of fruits, ranging from tropical fruits to citrus, including red fruits (cherry, blackcurrant) and peach. Followed by fresh notes of menthol and a floral break as well as spices that slightly enhance the profile (pepper, chili, vanilla). The wood is not that present. A nose that fits perfectly. On the palate, the TDL becomes more astringent, tannic, warm and bitter. The spices make a breakthrough in the palate, causing a triangle with the menthol and floral flavors on one side (with black tea as a bonus) and the countless fruits on the other (especially peach, blackcurrant and tropical fruits). The profile is still very tasty but more powerful than it suggested, the alcohol could have been a bit better integrated here. The finish is very long and prolongs the bitterness, astringency and tannins of the palate. The profile becomes more medicinal, mentholated and herbal on the black tea but retains the liveliness of the spices (pepper, chili). The red fruits, exotic fruits, peach and citrus allow to keep a form of indulgence and exuberance on this intense and almost tense profile. A heavy and captivating TDL, very marked by the aromas but lacking a bit of subtlety compared to the other bottlings of the bottler on the same vintage.

Typical, powerful TDL with the usual profile from the post-2000s: mango, peach, mint, plus in this case quite a bit of wood and also present alcohol. Aromatically convincing in itself, but with a somewhat too gripping bite.

Very cool profile on this TDL whose woody nose leans towards fruit notes: cherry, citrus. Maybe a smell of Calvados. On the palate, it's intense: peppery, alcoholic. But very pleasant despite that. A menthol touch wraps the woodiness and the fruits that come out. Menthol finish. Long as desired. I prefer its big brother 2 years older released for Caksus by CDI. It's the same profile whose alcohol has mellowed a lot. But it remains a very good rum.

The nose is explosive on what we love about this very special 2003 TDL cuvée. The menthol is powerful, the fruits (blackcurrant, red fruits) too. The bouquet is infinitely more floral with black tea, cut herbs, eucalyptus. The very old oak envelops everything and you find a lot of tobacco like a cigar box at the bottom of the glass. The palate is a menthol earthquake. But it's more like drinking a concentrated peppermint tea rather than having mint leaves all over the mouth. The woodiness is still very pleasant. The whole is ample and generous, floral. The blackcurrant gives way to crushed raspberry. The finish is endless on this mint and woodiness, with a hint of phenol. Another reference among the TDL 2003.

What a powerhouse. Even though this bottling isn't a complexity monster and the alcohol is a bit sharp on the palate, this bottling is just fun. Full blast mint and menthol. Also floral and medicinal. Definitely not an entry-level rum. I like it very much and also compared to longer-aged TDLs from the vintage really exciting. In blend with the RA TDL 2002 bottling also a blast. I find it awesome. Angular and edgy.

Compagnie des Indes T.D.L 16 years Nose: The opening expresses fine menthol notes, bringing immediate freshness. Then yellow fruits settle in, accompanied by a delicate woody touch, subtly vanilla. A balanced nose. Palate: The first sip reveals a beautiful fruity intensity, on well-ripened yellow fruits. Quickly, the menthol gains strength and envelops the palate powerfully. On the second sip, the woodiness asserts itself more, bringing structure and complexity. The whole remains coherent, carried by a persistent menthol thread. Finish: Long, persistent, evolving. The woody and menthol notes blend into a fruity sweetness, leaving a fresh and aromatic imprint that lingers for a long time. Conclusion: A raw and deep rum, with a strong character. Terribly expressive, it combines menthol freshness, gourmand fruit, and woody structure.
