People already comfortable with cask-strength Jamaican pot still get the most here. Aroma is the gourmet part: vanilla, chocolate, caramel and orange-and-pineapple esters. The palate turns spicy fast — honeyed sweetness up front, then lots of black pepper, oak and a grassy, almost vegetal edge. Tasters mostly enjoy it, though a couple found the dry, woody finish less convincing. Not a funk bomb.

Powerful rum. A beautiful nose, a little woody and alcoholic, lots of spices with a touch of vanilla and exotic fruit. On the palate, the spices are again very complex and intense. Then we move on to fruit, with a nice touch of pepper and spice. A hint of vegetal accompanies us. A very long, warm, spicy but pleasant finish. A great success, too bad there are only 240 bottles.
