Warm brioche, candied yellow fruit and honey lead here, with the ex-bourbon oak sitting soft and the trademark Bielle licorice held back for once. Eleven tropical years and a double distillation give it a round, gentle body most tasters call a "rhum d'été" — an easy summer sipper. A few found it a touch flat and simple on the palate, and one thought the earlier 2011 release was fresher.

A rather discreet but balanced nose. A side of dried herbs balanced by ripe fruits and candied fruits. Pastry sweetness. The palate is in line but less complex. Lots of sweetness, candied fruits and pastries. Bitterness develops slowly with the wood gaining prominence. The finish is medium long on bitterness and wood.

Good bottle but the price is unreasonable... A round, candied rum with floral aspects. A certain diversity of aromas on the palate but overall it lacks a bit of elegance and balance. Maybe I prefer the first 2011 version...? It seemed fresher and more balanced. I should taste them again at the same time...

This rum is designated Premium due to its double distillation: a first distillation in a Savalle column, followed by a second in a Muller pot still. The distillate obtained in 2011 was then aged in ex-bourbon barrels until 2022, thus benefiting from 11 years of tropical aging. Nose: The nose opens with captivating notes of dried fruits mixed with sweet glue accents typical of some well-evolved agricole rums. There is great freshness, a profusion of spices, and a honeyed sweetness that brings a lot of elegance. The characteristic licorice of Bielle is well present, but with more restraint than usual. The whole is superbly balanced, almost magical in its concentration and sweetness. Palate: The attack is gourmand, evoking warm brioche, stewed tropical fruits, yellow fruits, with a beautiful touch of almond and honey. The wood remains discreet but well integrated, while the spices, more dominant on the nose, fade slightly in the mouth, giving way to roundness. Finish: Long, complex, it evolves on notes of citrus, toasted oak, with a beautiful aromatic persistence. Conclusion: The reduction to 45% is perfectly mastered, offering a rum of remarkable harmony. The word that immediately comes to mind is balance. It is a rum that could willingly be called a "summer rum," as it is enjoyed with pleasure and ease, without ever losing complexity. In short, 2011 seems to be an exceptional vintage at Bielle. There is little to add... except that it is hard not to come back to it.

Tasted at the Whisky & Rum aan Zee festival IJmuiden 2023. Very (American) oaky/bourbon cask driven. Tasted at a festival, and it was nice, but probably needs more time.

Very round Bielle. Strong influence from the ex-bourbon cask, on the palate additionally the classic Bielle profile with spices, dried fruits, and some fresh citrus notes. Excellent Bielle representative.

Yo, fellas, Bielle - Premium 2011 - 🇬🇵 - 45% One of the latest pepites to be released by Bielle, the emblematic distillery of Marie-Galante that I no longer need to introduce to you. It's called premium because it's been double-distilled. The first in a Savalle column and the 2nd in a Muller still. The resulting distillate, from 2011, has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels until 2022. On the palate, there's brioche, stewed tropical and yellow fruit, almond and honey. There's also a hint of wood and spice that dominated the nose. Balance is the word that comes directly to mind when I taste this nectar, which could be described as a "summer rum" because it's so easy to drink without thirst. Cheers
