One taster called it "semi-sweet, lightly peaty" with a nice profile, and that lands close. Prunes, burnt caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate lead, with roasted char from the extra-burnt barrels giving it more backbone than most Abuelos. Several find real depth here; others say the sugar flattens it. Soft, warm, dessert-leaning — pleasant to sip and good in cola.

The taste is more intense in this Abuelo XII – the burnt oak barrel clearly shines through – vanilla, honey sweetness and delicious dried fruits. The aftertaste is long-lasting, spicy and smoky - with notes of cocoa beans. I appreciate the higher ABV which compliments the intense flavor more.

On the nose, you can smell candied fruit and caramel along with the volatility of alcohol. Unfortunately, after tasting, the sugar ruins it, the oversweetness overpowers all other flavors. Vanilla and wood in the background.

This one is okay again, but in my opinion never a 7.8. Solid rum, light sweetness, especially caramel and vanilla stand out here. Also, we have dark chocolate, some toffee, and the barrel.

Actually only bought for Rum Cola... Now I've also tried it neat. Lots of vanilla chocolate and woody notes, very sweet... but already palatable if it can be sweeter. Really tasty in rum cola.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get are very attractive prunes with smoky bacon and creamy butterscotch. There are very tempting yellow bourbon fruits and charred wood with cream toffee, caramel, roasted nuts, perhaps nougat and dried, candied fruits. When aired a bit, mol gives us vegetal notes with floral touch, perfumed. There is another layer of charring the wood with chocolate, cocoa. We could find some vanilla, confectionery with tempting biscuits. The fruits are berries, perhaps bluberries. Very round and complex. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is sweet, thick, oil and delicious with dried figs, prunes, candied fruits and tropical fruits like banana, papaya. The wood is roasted, charred, a bit spicy, as there is very gourmet caramel, toffee, vanilla, caramelized nuts. We could notice both bourbon and sherry notes. The molasses is thick and vegetal, creamy, there are tobacco, flowery notes. As our tasting buds would be enjoying very juicy, melted fruit marmelade with smoky touch and bacon😉. Round and tasty, even if just a bit sweet. . 8,7:The finish is long and tasty, balanced, as most of palate notes linger for quite some time.... 😋👌

Nice scent of dried fruit and a combo of red berries, lots of vanilla. The problem comes with the tasting. For me, unfortunately killed by sugar. But it had potential. Probably the extra burnt barrel did it and it has that kick in the taste, just it is also simply extra sweet.

24 Days of Rum 2024 - Black Edition - Day 14 First impression: full-bodied yet fresh Nose: wide range from dried fruits to tobacco and roasted bacon Palate: continuation of the impression, now with barrel, tobacco and spices Finish: medium-long, pleasantly warm, oak, tobacco Overall impression: nicely complex, interesting development from nose through palate to finish. I like the nose best, good for sipping neat, but certainly also a strong ingredient in mixers. I like it.

This Abuelo XII feels soft, sweet, and almost dessert-like. Vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, and dark fruits are clearly in the foreground, accompanied by a warm woody spice. Not a particularly dry or complex rum, but extremely pleasant to drink.

Here is a rum from the Rum and Co Advent calendar. This Abuelo smells rather woody, like the barrel. On the palate, flavors like vanilla and toffee come through. Overall, not bad at all.

A surprising new addition to abuelo. Unusually deep and not too sweet. The extra burnt barrels contribute beautiful roasted aromas, plus dried plum, burnt caramel and dark chocolate. Very fair for 60€!

A good starter introducing you to the rum world. It's sweet, smooth, I'd say feminine. Let's note that the producer "boasts" a large loss of distillate due to the angel's share phenomenon. In Panama's warm climate, during 12 years of barrel aging, evaporation causes the rum's strength to increase, which positively affects the intensity of aroma and taste. My question is, why was it diluted with water to 43 ABV? Despite everything, for fans of the Spanish style, a position worth recommending.

The nose is varying from woody to burnt and dried fruits or caramel. The color is dark - like old honey The taste is complex - from sweet, woody and caramel and fruits… Compared to two oaks is less woody, more fruity and more intense.

A very successful full-bodied rum. On the nose you mainly feel dried fruit like raisins which blend with a quasi-smoky aroma and tobacco. On the palate it is enhanced by sweet notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel with a very pleasant complementary taste of tobacco and smoky tones coming from charred barrels. Reminds a bit of Millonario XO, especially the smokiness, but falls slightly behind it, yet still a very successful rum.

Another exceptionally gourmand nose! Borderline candied vanilla if ever there was such a thing... aromas of plums and prunes are very present. Warm on the palate, with a slight bitterness at the start, followed by a strong presence of flambéed bananas. 3 anges, identical to the 2 oaks, but the barrels are taken from the very top, i.e. with a larger proportion of angels, so the rum is more concentrated.

One of my preferred Abuelos. There is probably some dosing here like with most Abuelos, but there is still plenty of flavour. Oak, vanilla. Honey and prune. Clear mahogany pour. Sweetness lasts a minute, then some prune, a hint of almond. Wood kicks in later. Quite complex, especially for an Abuelo. 24 days of rum calendar #14

Definitely better than Two oaks. More woody, but again two oaks has 40% pf alcohol, Three angels 43%. As the profile is same, those voltages can make huge difference. The price of three angels is still too high though.
