Somehow this is my first time trying a run from the Long Pond distillery and it was overdue. Right away, the nose lets you know that this is a Jamaican rum but it’s not the high ester, wild variety. This one is more tame but with all the hallmarks. Rounder, oaky, burnt sugar and molasses notes on nose and palate. There are overripe tropical fruits present here but not in the explosive way that some would expect from a Jamaican rum. There is some bitterness and heat on this one - not overwhelmingly so but noticeable. Nice solid rum and look forward to other Long Pond expressions.

Poured from a bottle that's been open for ~ 6 months, and is mostly full. This is a stellar rum. Roasted almost meaty woodiness, plenty of tropical fruits (mostly banana and mango), and then varnish, glue, and herbal tea. Very complex and long finish keeps this rum going and going. Fully tropical lower ester Jamaican rums like this are a rarity here in the US, and are a delight every time they are poured.
