It's charred wood, caramel and orange peel with cherry and a light smoke, all pulled long by the 60.7% cask strength. One taster said blind he'd have believed it was Barbados. Rich enough to sip, but a few found it a touch safe.

08/03/2026: Brussels Rhum Festival @ Tour & Taxis. If I was tasting blind and you would say this is a rum from Barbados, I would probably believe you. It reminded me of a Foursquare at times, but not at the same level. A bit too boring for me to be honest. The best Panama I've ever tasted was bottled by SMWS, and it stays that way for now.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is a roasted wood with caramel and nuts, spicy with vanilla and fruity with cherry, dried fruits.Roastedness quickly ups the ante a notch to charred notes with dark chocolate, smokiness and leather. On aeration, a temptation increases with banana, prunes and citrus, pastry. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is delicious with sweet charred wood notes like caramel, caramelized burnt sugar, smoky, leathery and spicy with cinnamon, fruits like cherry, banana, orange peel and dried fruits with prunes.After resting the rum, very tasty pastry with lemon peel and cinnamon arises, herbaceous molasses with earthy tobacco. 8,6:The finish is long, tannic, the wood is still charred, spicy and smoky, the fruits dried and tropical..

On the nose. From caramel to woody. The attack on the palate is very smooth, first the wood rubs against burnt caramel, some light hints of menthol enhance everything. The alcohol is very well integrated, very round which is probably due to the addition of sugar. The finish is very short and could have been more sustained for more depth! Edit: one year after my first tasting I no longer find this added sweetness which seemed added to me and that's a very good thing. Oxidation really did it a lot of good +0.3!

Excellent Panamanian with rich cane honey and caramel sweetness. Slight smoked character with a nice weight to the spirit, not too light and not too heavy.
