Under the cask you get orchard fruit — pear, peach, apricot, that "apple brandy" note one taster keeps finding in Beenleighs — plus dark spice and a smoky, burnt-barrel edge. At 65.2% the alcohol pushes hard at first but settles into a round, earthy body. A dry, potent Australian pour.

Artur's Australian Advent calendar: Almost just sugarcane, lots of vegetal notes and a bit of wood and caramel from nose to finish. On the palate, you can barely make out some fruit, alongside a bit of spicy/peppery. Very long warm finish.

Cross-tasting 2007 Beenleigh with RX10370 Duchess RX16467 Silver Seal RX14046 Nobilis RX24349 Bottleshop At the nose, all are quite closed at first. They need time in the glass. The Duchess and Nobilis develop a nice fruity pear/peach note. The Bottleshop joins later with the same but more restrained note. The Silver Seal remains quite closed until the end. On the palate, the Duchess continues this aroma play, paired with some wood and spice. Very good. The Silver Seal comes across much stronger and spicier. At first, the fruit is also clearly recognizable here. The Nobilis is the fruitiest here. It strongly resembles the Duchess. What all three have in common is the quite well-integrated alcohol. The Bottleshop is fruity at first, but then the alcohol bites quite strongly. It only allows very small sips. Wood and spice are also very present. In the finish, the Duchess and Nobilis are relatively short. The Silver Seal is more pronounced and leans more towards the woody spicy side. Same with the Bottleshop. For me, the Duchess/Nobilis are slightly ahead, closely followed by the Silver Seal. The Bottleshop falls behind due to poorly integrated alcohol.

Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 15. A nose where woody and roasted notes dominate with an alcohol presence that's just a little too strong. In the background, yellow fruits with a nice spicy apple and a vegetal side, as often found in Beenleigh. The palate is fresh, vegetal, and fruity with quite a bit of apple; the woodiness and roast come next. The finish, a bit more bitter, is fairly long. An aromatic rum even if it probably lacks a few years of aging.

Awesome stuff, this is really fun! The alcohol is present but well integrated, it will be over 60% again. Very complex, with a colorful fruit basket and plenty of wood and a very pleasant sweetness.

Artur's Australian Advent Calendar 2025 door 15. Beenleigh :) Very woody/casky nose, also quite spicy. On the palate, it remains very woody, also very roasted and smoky, as well as still slightly spicy.

#5039 15.01.2025 Enjoying some samples at home. Nose Fresh, light wood, light roasted, fruits, spice, light caramel, dried fruit, faint chocolate. Palate Oily, fresh, round, wood, fruits, light roasted, light caramel, spices, faint mint, naturally sweet, light herbal, medium dry. Finish Long and warm, medium spicy, wood, light roasted, fruits, light chocolate. The empty glass has smoke, light licorice, vanilla and chocolate.

Today we tested four Beenleigh bottlings from 2007. All in all, four surprisingly good bottlings, which I would not have expected. My personal list would be the Silver Seal at No.1, Bottleshop at No.2, The Duchess at No.3 and the Nobilis bottling at No.4, which is a little behind.

2007 side-by-side with Duchess, SS, Nobilis and BottleShop. On the nose the BS is my favorite with more roundness and a creamy feel. The other three are quite similar with the SS a bit more on the harsh side. On the palate I do enjoy all four contenders pretty much, eventhough Bennleigh isn’t my favorite distillery tbh. Today the SS takes the crown closely followed by BS. Duchess comes with most fruits while the Nobilis shows the most influence (bitterness) from the cask.

Beenleigh - tasting with four different bottlings, 3 from 2007, the Compagnie des Indes from 2013. All very good, excellently mineral and earthy with light notes of vanilla and creamy influences. The candidate from Silver Seal clearly stands out here because it goes into the glass very oily and full even for non-experts, draws heavy legs and presents itself both on the nose and palate like that. Has less ABV than the Nobilis, but definitely more punch and body - great bottling, definitely a highlight for fans of restrained rums from Australia who like these earthy, straightforward bottlings.

Fruit aromas of pear, peach, and apricot, dark spices, bitter-smoky notes from the charred barrel. Minimal floral notes on the nose and palate. An intense profile typical for Australia, not perfect, but in a very good range.

A smoky note on the nose, then unconfirmed on the palate, alcohol initially seems to push too hard but it's 65 degrees and that's understandable, it continues with a nice roundness and alcohol that goes in. Slight herbaceous note, but lots of nice flavors in the mouth...promoted 🤙🏻

I already have quite a bit of experience with strong rums, but I was bit taken aback by the first taste. Medinal notes didn't show up in the taste for me, finish is very long. Rum is interesting, but there's nothing "memorable" about it for me.
