The surprise here is how light and bright this Navy blend drinks — lots of Jamaican pineapple and ester up front, then Barbados vanilla and a darker Guyana pencil-shaving, chocolate side once you give it air. At 48.9% it's a Navy that "won't burn your palate," which is exactly what splits people. Overripe tropical fruit, caramel, sweet spice, a woody-dry finish.

8,2:On the nose, the first impression we get are overripe tropical fruits, funky, like pineapple, banana, some citrus, caramelized with industrial Trinidadian notes as plastic, tar, as the wood is roasted and spicy like sweet spices. When we air it, tasty pastry and chocolate notes come out, the fruits are candied and dried now, there is a touch of grass and pencil shavings... 8,5:On the palate, the attack is round and tasty with tropical fruits as banana, candied, caramelized, as the wood is roasted, toasted with sweet spices.The molasses are dark with chocolate and pastries, syrupy, with juicy marmelade. We cannot miss Trinidadian citrus fruits with a mandarine, dried Guyana fruits like currants...some leather note might join. Very nice balance. 8,5:The finish is long, woody, dry with dried fruits, some citruses, sweet with pastry, candied fruits, honey, a bit spicy, musty, smoky, as tannins crawl out at the end of tasting..

Tried at the 12 GRF in Berlin: Relaxed blend. Unfortunately not "at proof", but very harmonious and yet you can feel the individual components. I like it as an easy sipper. Update: for me still a highlight in terms of value for money. Harmonious, round, full-bodied, a really great blend for comparatively little money!

Here we have a rum club that's hard to classify. Nose is spicy, unfortunately mint is noticeable. On the palate it is very rusty and a bit woody, with dark chocolate and cocoa added. For me, a rather weak rum club.

#4508 07.12.2023 A pretty good rum especially when looking at the price tag. Medium fruity with nice spices. The palate is a tad light, would have loved a higher ABV. The finish is medium long and sweet with nice spices. Again a bit light. The empty glass has some caramel and chocolate.

Great nose of citrus fruits, peach, some mint and tropical fruits. Much more tart and dry on the palate. Strongly reminiscent of 90%+ dark chocolate, very dark and bitterly spicy with some cinnamon and tannins. Beautiful blend!

In my opinion, an easy sipper that overall feels a bit thin. It doesn't really leave a lasting impression for me. I think with a higher proof, there would definitely have been more to it.

An appealing, almost too agreeable mix with all the markers I expect in a Navy Blend. However, it sometimes comes across as somewhat weak, which is especially noticeable in the otherwise tasty finish.

rather fruity on the nose, more towards Jamaica and Barbados, less Guyana and Trinidad. The palate is also a little sharp-edged for 'only' 48.9%. The bottom line is that I find the Pusser's Deptford Dockyard Reserve, for example, much better, as its profile is much closer to the 'original' Royal Navy blend from the 60s. Perhaps the 'next generation' in the Ed 37 is deliberately intended to set it apart from the traditional navy blend... I don't quite understand it.

When sniffing, you dive into the journey, fruits are immediately present, first tropical, then citrus fruits. The influences of Guyana and Jamaica show like a model student snapping. What the nose promises is delivered on the palate and expanded, we continue traveling with strong flavor, while the Trinidad influence gains ground. A Navy Blend that delivers what the name promises. "Next Generation" is the subtitle, and that fits very well, because the hobby connoisseur can already taste the one or other distillery with the first drop. I like it, fits an evening with old vacation photos.

JoA has everything I expect from a navy blend: a bit of fruitiness and vanilla from Barbados. Nice pineapple notes and esters from Jamaica and strong woody and dark tones from Guyana. Trinidad could be a bit stronger represented for me here

I actually find the final form of this blend very successful and it can definitely compete with an annual special release from BlackTot, which is much more expensive. What's exciting about this rum is that for me, the Hampden-pineapple profile dominates in the nose and initially on the palate, even though the blend was only aged in a Hampden cask but, according to RumDepot, contains no Hampden, where I would have preferred more Guyana for my taste. I think this is also where many of the rather sobering reviews come from, from people who only tried it briefly at the Rumfest. If you give this rum a bit of time and wait until the palate is saturated by the flavor compounds that the Hampden cask apparently gave in abundance, this rum really unfolds. Here I then taste a nice Barbados and also a subtle but definitely present Guyana pencil note. You have to give this rum some time in the glass and on the palate, then it really is fun. Also, we have a rum here with just under 49% that finally doesn't burn your palate sustainably and is nicely mild, but still wonderfully transports taste and complexity. Contrary to many opinions, I find this rum anything but flat, but I can imagine that the initial one-dimensionality due to the Hampden cask creates this impression.

The character is quite light for a Navy – actually almost too light. Here a lot of Jamaica upfront. Also somewhat weak and a bit alcoholic. But really very okay for the price and a good blend.

Tried at the GRF. I liked it very much at first. The nose is nicely fruity and very round. Here I especially find the Jamaica and Barbados share. The Navy Rum definitely scores here. Surprisingly sweet on the palate. But somehow also a bit weak. Hope for another sample. Couldn't bring myself to take a bottle on site. But could be a very good daily sipper. And finally the request... If it says Navy Rum please go to 54.7%. Would have been better for me. Edit: Sample confirmed the impression. Overall very pleasant. I like it but for the price it should be 70cl for me to consider buying a bottle.

The rum really convinced me due to its refinement. With only 49%, it brings depth and complexity that is surprising for the price. The alcohol is very well integrated, but <50% shouldn't be a problem either. Still, you find candidates that show this is not a given. The different styles of the countries are clearly recognizable and balanced. All in all, a great rum that doesn't cater to the nerd niche mainstream, but I can share it with friends. For me, an excellent daily sipper.

I like it very much, maybe a bit too gentle. With some time, many fruity nuances can be discovered. Caramel and oak are always present - and a creaminess from yogurt (with pineapple) to chocolate.

He obviously has a hard time against Ed 31 - possibly the best Navy Blend ever - but still brings a nice depth & complexity. Due to the lower proof, nicely relaxed and easy to drink.
