Don't come here for a classic Hampden funk bomb — the PX sherry runs the show. Raisins, red fruit and sweet wine sit up front, with the ester and glue tucked underneath and a peppery, oily palate. Most tasters find it surprisingly balanced and easy to sip for a 2-year-old, though a few wish the Jamaican side wasn't so muffled. Great flavor spike in a Mai Tai too.

Edit: Now that the bottle has been open for a while and probably got a bit more air from the previous split, I actually find it quite drinkable. For the price, it's already very good as a sipper. You definitely can't deny the sherry influence here. All in all, however, a pleasant sipper. I don't mind the sherry, it's a bit of a change. Although I still prefer his colleague.

8,4:On the nose, esters, rubber, funky, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, dried currants, raisins, red fruits, roasted wood notes like nuts, chocolate, smoky, spicy, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is grassy, citrus and papaya arise, caramel, pastry, leather, allspice, some copper and iodine. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is funky with esters, burnt, chemical at first, but round with sweet PX notes, fermented overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, dried fruits like raisins, later apricot and prunes, citrus fruits, some candied, roasted wood notes like caramel, pastry, leather, spicy with baking spices peppery, smoky, molasses is thick, dark with licorice, flowery, grassy, earthy with tobacco. 8,4:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, sherry barrel is obvious, complemented by Jamaican funk, esters, as notes from the palate linger on, darker and smokier.

Finish/PX aging is very dominat with PX sweetness taking the lead on the nose as well as on the palate. This is very approachable and enjoyable, but if I‘m looking for the PX taste, I‘d just buy a bottle sherry.

#5968 17.11.2025 Enjoying a few samples watching my wife pack for her Japan trip. Nose Fresh, light ester, light wood, spice, light glue, citrus, overripe, banana, light sherry. Palate Fresh, oily, light wood, light ester, fruity, overripe, light pineapple, medium spicy, light sherry, faint polish. Finish Medium to long, fresh, oily, light wood, faint chocolate, citrus. Empty glass Banana, light chocolate, light clove, light polish.

Like soaking raisins in rum for years, then squeezing the raisins out and adding some banana split 😄. Extremely intense sherry notes with just the right amount of funkiness. Tastier than I expected, since sherry is usually too dominant for me, which is also the case here, but somehow it really harmonizes well.

Unfortunately tastes more like rum with PX sherry rather than rum from the PX cask. The cask was probably more than just “damp” … very unfortunate. A bit too sweet (and I'm very sensitive to that), but otherwise actually quite good. Definitely a nice flavor spike in cocktails or to spice up a Jamaica/Hampden infinity bottle or to blend with a normal HLCF

I'm usually not a fan of sherry finish with Hampdens but have to admit that I surprisingly like this bottling very much. The aroma distribution wood - fruit - sweetness is very well balanced and the alcohol well integrated. I still have a bottle, so it will be tried soon in a Mai Tai.

Clearly on the sweet side, but overall balanced and quite pleasant. The heavy sweet wine aroma is very present, which probably costs some complexity on one hand, but on the other hand makes drinking relaxed possible. For two years, exceptionally solid.

Crazy stuff, really makes wild MaiTais and is also easy to enjoy neat. This rum tastes like Kröger put Hampden into one of his wet, merry sherry casks :P And I think the result is really well done! Absolutely dreamy PLV - but unfortunately only available in limited quantities live at the Rumstore you trust 😇

PX influence very clear, dominates over the actual rum, which thus seems very muted. If you want something simple, you can go for this, but to me it feels like Hampden with the handbrake on.

Sherry is the first scent that hits my nose. Then a very Jamaican nose takes over: funky, woody, very ripe fruit. You can tell the alcohol will be present. On the palate, it’s powerful (the alcohol is too present for me), woody. The sherry brought a lot of sweetness (a bit too much for my taste). It’s very peppery as well. And you find the Jamaican framework present on the nose. Finish where the wood dominates and brings a note of brine. Nice but the alcohol is way too present for me.

The PX influence is very high. I've had this rum regularly in my glass for about 6 weeks now and can say it's definitely a tasty, easy sipper, but it shouldn't be left in the glass too long as the cask influence eventually takes over. I like the rum. If you're looking for the classic Hampden profile, this might not be it. But if you're into exploring cask influence, you'll enjoy it.

Third attempt, now I have to write a review. Nose: Ojo, ester and sherry – nothing new anymore. Here however with sherry turned up to 11. Allegedly there were also "accidentally" 3 liters of sherry left in the small octave cask, so almost a blend. The sherry+ester combination works quite well again, even if it's slowly getting a bit boring. Good red fruits and glue in the background. The finish is however yuck, it has a weird cheese feet/old socks note. That makes it almost undrinkable for me. But I seem to be the only one who has that. Took three tries, but this almost moldy note was there every time. Nose and palate are still on track, the finish ruins the rum for me.
