Savanna Unshared Cask for Germany 2016
The surprise here is the fruit: strawberry cream, lychee and bubblegum stacked on ester and honey, with the wood sitting quietly behind. This blend of Traditionnel and HERR grand arôme runs high on funk yet stays round. At 59.5% the alcohol is mostly well tucked in. The recurring gripe — six years is young, and a few years more would have deepened it.

Fruity, funky young Savanna at cask strength A very fruity, funky Savanna most people enjoy — strawberry, ester and spice, alcohol nicely woven in. The common catch: it drinks young and the finish fades a touch quick.

Great mix of Traditional and Grand Arôme / HERR!

A nice blend of Grande arome and Traditionelle. Roasted caraway seeds, honey and apricot jam meets esters, glue and subtle wood notes. The light menthol chewing gum/ice candy notes known from grand aromes are very intensely perceptible here together with various yellow tropical fruits and cinnamon chewing gum. Exciting experiment, only the alcohol could be better integrated, but this is probably due to the very short maturation time. There could be more potential here imho. In addition, this caraway note disturbs me massively sorry 😃

Great Savanna Blend. HERR is not to be dismissed out of hand. Seems young and fruity. Strawberries, honey burnt sugar and a tiny bit of wood. Nose really outstanding. On the palate it unfortunately falls off a bit .... same game as in the nose just a bit unbalanced ... A little more time in the tropics would have helped to play further up there possibly. Nevertheless, a great bottling .

Savanna Masterclass for RumX 2024. The nose presents flavors of lychee, red fruit, but also vegetal and even floral and bubble gum-like. The palate is soft on entry, then the aromas take over: esters, fruit, wood and spice. The finish is long, with citrus fruits, red berries and a pleasant floral/herbaceous note.
Review by DomM
Intense and interesting blend of Traditional and HERR. While both characteristics add to the mix and create a enjoyable profile, personally, I tend to enjoy both profiles separatly more. Very nice bottling for Germany netherthrless.
Review by Leo Krüper
Very pleasing, could have used some more time in the barrel. Retasting: Strawberry, orange, pineapple. Some varnish from the ester. I don't understand why it had to come out of the barrel so early. Could certainly have been really good. I find the PLV weak here, the bottle far too expensive.
Review by Dr.Django
Savanna Unshared Cask #3 for Germany. Reminds me a lot in aroma profile and fruitiness of unshared cask #4 for Germany. However, this one has considerably more power, the fruits are more present and the astringency suits it well. Citrus fruits and strawberry cream on the palate and in the finish. A successful bottling.
Review by Thunderbird
A first-class Savanna with a fruity, floral interplay of aromas. In the glass again today and the fruit on the nose is always positively surprising at first. On the palate, the fruit is joined by a little wood and spice. A very harmonious and round Savanna

Tasted against another 2006 Savanna, the relatively new Rum Nation with Sherry Finish (RX13525): The differences are striking. While the finish of the RN immediately comes to the fore in the nose and on the palate, the Unshared Germany has intrusive, artificial fruit gum notes. However, the alcohol is better integrated in the Unshared. Ultimately a neck-and-neck race, I find the Rum Nation more palatable, the Unshared Germany more balanced with a slightly higher recognition value.

I first tried it on the GRF 2023 before it was released and was somehow a little disappointed. Today, half a year later, I quite like it. Lots of esters that give it a bit of a HERR feeling, plus a nice rich honey note on the nose and then a lot of spice at the back, I would say cinnamon and cardamom. Unfortunately, it's quickly gone again, the young age probably comes through here. Young and intense, actually also good, but unfortunately priced too high! Update in the RumX-Masterclass: I still like it quite a lot, strong and spicy and the nice honey note. Still priced too high for me.
Review by RumTaTa
The nose immediately delivers: fruit jelly, citrus, honey and esters in good but not overwhelming intensity. The palate is very sharp at the beginning! Unfortunately, the metallic alcoholic taste remains. Otherwise nicely intense and very Savanna typical. The finish brings no surprise, medium to long and more in the direction of barrel. Good Savanna but I do not agree with the pricing and development. For rum of this quality I spent about 60 € 2 years ago. And there were no fish but information on the label!
Review by Serge
The blend of Rhum Traditionell and HERR works very well and is well proportioned. On the nose, an intense Traditionell with lots of fruit and some ester. Only on the palate comes the HERR strawberry and the fruit gmi quietly in the background. However, the storage is m.E. Still not enough. The would have a few more years certainly stood well.
Review by mto75
on the nose I have melon, pineapple, grape and young wood. On the palate just as neat young wood, plus green vegetables. From memory, I would say it is not quite on par with the RX 300 (the 14yr unshared for Germany), and compared to the CdI for Germany (RX 308) it falls off a bit more. Nevertheless a good Savanna

Savanna Masterclass for RumX July 2024: Needs some air to tame the alcoholic presence. Behind this veil, wonderful aromas of fresh and fermented fruits emerge, plus wood, floral notes, some burnt sugar, very subtle spice… surprising how the rum changes in the glass.
Review by Alex1981
Great blend of molasses & HERR, best of both worlds. Very successful, hope to get a bottle at release 🙈 //update: Super nose, fruity & intense. On the palate a bit astringent & woody, the fruit takes a back seat. The strawberries of the HERR are only hinted at. A bit sharp, which is a pity. There could have been more...

#4185 This is an easy drinkable release, but at the same time also a well balanced one. Nice and fruity with a floral touch and the wood is more in the back. Draws really nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass has some chocolate and coffee to it.
Review by Timo Groeger
So far for me today the best Savanna of this masterclass with Sam. Ester, wood and a little fruity on the nose. Palate matches the nose. Alcohol super integrated. I can recommend it, super rum
Review by Vincent D
Rather delicate nose. Woody, fruity. Then some heavier scents: esters, solvents. Also yellow fruits. On the palate, I expected something much stronger. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. A first woody and fruity mouthfeel. Some pepper. Then a darker, roasted profile. The sensation intensifies afterwards. Very good! Edit: it's really very good. A touch of esters and exuberant fruits balanced by the omnipresence of pepper. Great success. As usual, I would have liked a few degrees less so it would be a bit more accessible.

I had brought a small sample with me from the 12th GRF in Berlin, but I'm only now getting around to it... Nose: beautifully spicy-fruity and very intense. A whole lot of great aromas hit the nose right away. Ginger, cardamom and clove alongside sweet lemon, green apple and ripe apricot. Honey or syrupy sweetness envelops the whole. A certain medicinal note and a strong floral note - geranium - make it delicately edgy. At the end I can still detect a slight hint of liquorice. Top nose. 8.8 Palate: fruity, medicinal and spicy. Exciting mixture. Bitter-sweet lime and tart-sweet fruit, such as guava and fresh fig with apricot (but less than on the nose). The medicinal note is omnipresent, but anything but unpleasant. And as in the nose, there is an almost artificial syrupy sweetness. The spiciness is somehow reminiscent of caraway liquorice (is there even such a thing 😬?). I also really like it. 8.6 Definitely savanna. I like that. I guess the 6 years in the cognac barrel bring in those apricot flavors.

RumX Savanna Masterclass 12.7. After the German Rumfest 2023, this unshared for Germany with a mix of traditional and Herr was in my glass again. Back then as now a good impression. Initially also quite floral on the nose, the profile on the palate is dominated by quite a bit of chewing gum aroma with strawberry flavor. In the finish, the bottling tends slightly towards the spicier side. With a bit of time in the glass, it no longer seems quite so well balanced.
Review by TheJackDrop
Comparison thanks to RumX, Unshared vs Absolu! Only very good. Here fruits, a little floral side on the nose, which did not impress me. On the palate, fruits, a background of esters, lots of strawberry and a light woodiness. Long finish that gradually calms down on peppers and strawberry. Very good, although I admit that at this price I would surely have expected a little more.

Now I finally got to enjoy tasting the rum that caused a crazy FOMO for some back then. In my opinion, this rum is not bad, but it doesn't really blow me away so that I would have to chase after a bottle now. I find the alcohol not quite so well integrated, which denies it a better rating.
Review by Skyfly
Cross tasting of two Savanna Unshared Cask for GER: clearly better recognizable Savanna aromas, especially tropical fruits and strawberry, even if these don't last too long in the finish. Alcohol class well integrated.
Review by Tim
Extremely fruity nose, in which you can discover a lot and which is complemented by some beautiful notes. The palate is very mild, spicy, fruity and sour with a distinct sweetness that is super harmonious. From time to time you get the feeling of chewing gum in your mouth and nose.
Review by Jarek
Tasted first at the GRF and was totally enthusiastic. I would have given it about 88 points then. Now tried again calmly and less enthusiastic, although it is still a very good Savanna. In direct comparison, I might still like the “old” Unshared Cask for Germany a bit better, more complex and “mature”. After all, it's 6 versus 14 years of aging. Addendum: Tasted again during the RumX Masterclass and raised the rating again. Today I like it very much again and the HERR share comes through well.
Review by Banana Joe
I'm simply a high ester fan. Super exciting Savanna, on the nose red berries and yellow fruits, mainly strawberry. Also very fruity on the palate, here too the berry aromas dominate for me. Alcohol very well integrated.
Review by Tschusikowsky
Nose: polish, grape sugar, fruity with acidity, very slight baby vomit, wood and earthy notes. On the palate rather typical Savanna. I like it. Finish relatively thin. Wood discreet but very present and integrated.
Review by Filip Šikula
So far one of the best savannas from this series I've drunk. Strongly fruity in the nose, sometimes even ester-like. Taste of similar profile, strawberries and lychee. Alcohol is integrated, I would only criticize the shorter finish, again dominated by strawberries.
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴
Interesting bottling. The nearly 60% are surprisingly well integrated. Still somewhat unbalanced. More time in the cask would surely have done it good. A solid rum but it will probably stay with the sample.
Review by TheJona'Spirits
👃 The combination of esters from the Herr and woodiness from the Traditionnel boosts lovely smells of fermented strawberries and candied lime. Lots of dried white flowers from fruit trees and potpourri. Sweetness of mountain honey candies, fresh vanilla. Hospital corridors, mercurochrome and solvents. At no time do I feel the almost 60°. Very beautiful, clear, precise nose. - 87/100 😋 Intense and lively alcohol, although it lacks olfactory concentration compared to the nose. The same markers are found, esters, strawberries, lime, tropical fruits too (ripe pineapple, mango), caramel of stewed fruits, lively spices, throat medicine. - 83/100 ⛳ Warm, spicy (peppery, vanilla and cinnamon powder), mix of lime, orange, apricots, strawberries in fruit salad, mild honey as accompaniment. - 85/100 🏅 Very nice TH1 blend of traditional rum and HERR. Soft esters, fermented strawberries, vanilla barley sugar, spicy woodiness. A palate more withdrawn compared to the balance of the nose. Pretty sweet, esterified and spicy finish that lasts a long time. 85+/100
Review by Master P
So far one of the best Savans from this series that I've had. Strongly fruity in aroma, sometimes almost ester-like. The flavor profile is similar, strawberries and lychees. The alcohol is integrated, my only criticism would be the short finish. Citrus and red fruits work well.

Savanna Masterclass July 12, 2024: Wonderfully intense HERR nose, which is caught by the wood and thus becomes more accessible. Beautifully intense peach smell. After the phenomenal nose, the mouth falls slightly. Still a great rum, it grabs me!
Review by Boletus
The HERR portion is present from the start, but not overpowering; it enriches the very well-made blend with its fruity esters at every moment. Very nice! Savanna Masterclass online tasting on 12.07.2024, many thanks to the RumX team.
Review by Manuel
Had to catch up on my Savanna RumX tasting. I'm positively impressed by this Savanna. Intense nose with ester influences that are fun. Very fruity in taste with woody/spicy nuances. Great rum.
Review by Cinci
This rum seems very well balanced to me, on one side fresh and fruity and on the other side powerful and complex due to the HEER portion. On the palate, peach, floral and wood notes dominate. Too bad it was not easy to get.
Review by Maxime Clr 🇫🇷
Magnificent nose superbly fruity, on honey and vanilla. The palate is slightly more disappointing, as you find the spices replacing them.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-rich pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.
Review by F.L.O.
There is a little too much LORD on the tip of my tongue.
Review by Jens Mulzer
Actually, you could also use the comment here to rate the wonderful label 😂. Well then: The nose is fruity, especially strawberry and a bit of pineapple or tropical fruits. On the palate, I also find fruits like strawberry and the aforementioned tropical fruits. I really like this rum, it's very harmonious, very pleasant and easy to drink. The alcohol is also very well integrated.
Review by Rum Watcher
Somehow a funky fish. Didn’t expected that much, but wac curious, as I made a few good experiences when it comes to cognac cask maturation. To make it short: The lack of age compared to other Savanna SC isn’t a problem here. Complex and round, alcohol well embaded. Good cask.
Review by Andi
That was one of the top rums at GRF2023, Nice Savanna bottling with clearly recognizable Herr aromas. Personally, I liked this honey-fruit note. I found the Japan Tribute a bit better in direct comparison, if you can even compare such things.
Review by Basti
Trade fair evaluation. Another tasting approximately confirms the trade fair rating (+0.1). I like it, but it doesn't knock my socks off. My Savanna favorite remains by far the Savanna Unshared Cask for LMDW TH1 (RX10630), even after the small Savanna tasting.
Review by primus
The first time the Savanna Unshared Cask in the glass. And it immediately shows teeth. The smell is intense with glue, ripe fruit and a portion of spice, in the second row lychee and kiwi? On the palate powerful, very direct, slightly dirty and carried by oak. Not a gentle flatterer, rather a rum with bite, that lingers long and clearly shows edge.
Review by Mentalo
Alcohol could be a bit better integrated. Still a pleasant bottling. Pleasant honey sweetness, lots of pineapple and strawberry. Reminds me of Juicy Fruit chewing gums. A few years of aging would have done it good, I think.
Review by Martin Spooner
Very sweet nose. A kind of apricot. Really nice. Strong fruity and floral taste. Honey and overripe fruits. Good ester at the start. Wonderful rum, slightly accessible savanna version. Recommended. Tasting to confirm the rating.
Review by lars
First tasting at GRF 23 - already found it good there. A lot of what I like about Savanna - especially the spices stand out. I would like it a bit fruitier though. And unfortunately too expensive.
Review by Cédric C
Last night, I had the chance to taste two Savanna Unshared: the Germany edition (Murène) and the Réunion one (Tortue). Two very different profiles, logically with two rums of different composition. The Murène (Th1) is more discreet than the Tortue on the nose, but also more complex, more harmonious. It clearly leans towards floral and fruity aromas. Maybe it lacks a bit of punch on the nose to enter my top at Savanna, but on the palate, it's a real success: pleasant, balanced, with a well-present woodiness (even though it doesn't really show on the nose), and always those beautiful fruity notes that hold throughout the tasting.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Estery and fruity. Strawberry. Honey. Little bit of floral notes. Taste: Esters with fruity notes like strawberries. Little bit of alcoholic Then you get l woody, spices and roasted notes. Honey and vanilla notes come in. Finish: Woody, spices like cinnamon and vanilla.Little bit of yellow fruits. Maybe i would have prefered more clearer, stronger notes and more depth maybe, anyway while this rum worth tasting, this blend didnt really work me.

This is a super solid bottling from Savannah. Thanks to the RumX team. I’ve been able to try for expressions that I’ve never would have otherwise. I also realize now that I am a huge fan of molasses and grand arôme blended rums. Tasting notes: strawberries and cream, burnt honey, varnish, cinnamon gum, pineapple
