Sipped neat at 60.9%, it comes in hot — the young age shows and a few tasters wanted the alcohol better integrated. But underneath sits real Hampden: ester funk, overripe tropical fruit, papaya and pineapple, with a sherry-cask layer adding dark fruit and a touch of acidity. Most here rate the funk over the sweet-wine finish. A couple of members happily drop it into a Cuba Libre too.

Edit: Yes, it still has the edge compared to its brother from the other cask. Also in a Cuba Libre it performs better in my opinion. For the price both are very good. This one is slightly ahead of its brother. Here the light ester funk is more in the foreground than the sherry. Nevertheless, both are more than okay for the price.

Not really to my liking. Sour, sweet, and lots of glue and too alcoholic. The PX is clearly more harmonious here. Overall just not pleasant to drink. Generally, I don't understand why people put almost white rums in sweet wine barrels for 2 years, but it's just not my thing.

#5325 16.05.2025 Running some samples while watching a program about poaching rhino's. Nose Fresh, fruity, light wood, faint smoke, overripe, light cherry, light pineapple, spice, light ester. Palate Light oily, fresh, fruity, overripe, light banana, light cherry, raisin, light ester, wood, light roasted. Finish Medium to long, fresh, wood, fruits, light banana, faint chocolate, faint smoke. Empty glass Chocolate, light vanilla, light banana, light raisin.

Not quite my taste, but clearly better than the PX sister bottling. Still (too much) sherry forward but not as sweet and more balanced.

A pleasant Hampden with a distinctive sherry finish. All the classic markers are present, with papaya dominating the fruit notes. Unfortunately, the rum has a bit too much acidity for my taste. Still, the value for money is really good for the RP.

On the one hand pleasant, on the other hand very dominant impressions from the sweet wine cask. Quite astringent on the palate, fruity, again dark, heavy fruits, the complexity remains rather manageable. Nice rum, but missing that certain something.

These Jamaicans with a sherry finish are definitely not for me. Here, it is present from nose to finish. In the background, there is a very fruity and funky Hampden. The sherry brings sugar and a bitterness that is not very pleasant in my opinion. Still good.

I'll go against the trend and found the PX cask better. The nose I found a bit more one-dimensional and a lot of sharpness on the palate. The young age was much more noticeable here. Probably more suitable for Hampden purists. I would take the PX finish.
