Here's the surprise: this spent two years in a sherry cask, but you'd barely know it — it drinks almost like a clear, high-ester Hampden white. Expect a fruit bomb of pineapple, overripe banana, glue and solvent, with only a faint red-fruit or nutty whisper of sherry hiding underneath. At nearly 70% it's explosive, though most tasters find the alcohol surprisingly well tucked in.

Super exciting! Beautiful high ester Jamaican! The sherry cask is very subtle. Can be drunk neat, but also excellent in a cocktail! More high ester compared to Burkes, but perhaps a little more one-dimensional.

#4192 Forst off, wow, price to quality is very good and it can be enjoyed pure with joy. Fruity with esters and pretty well balanced. The sherry finish is there but more in the background and not influencing the overall profile too much. The empty glass has some dried fruit and very light grass.

Edit: it was very tasty. For the price, it's a must-have for mixing. But also very drinkable on its own. Not only an ester bomb, but also an absolute price-performance hit. There's not much more to say about it!

Tasted as part of the RA online tasting for the RumX lottery 06/2023. A PLV monster! Very, very fruity on the nose. The sherry influence comes into play relatively late. The icing on the cake: Smell of a fresh sea breeze. Delicious! The rum is explosive on the palate, but not at all fizzy despite being almost 70%. A nice new bottling that appeals.

Then the last one for today, I love it :) The fire is clearly recognizable. Again delicious esters, glue and tropical fruits on the nose and palate. Tastes fermented and overripe, solvents are also recognizable on the palate.

RumX Lottery June 23, RA online tasting. So this is the first of the Burke's Elements series. Water, because powerful like water, but at the same time flowing around ... or so... Nose: Ester! Banana, pineapple, vinegar and solvent. The 2 years in a 400 l sherry cask are not yet so noticeable on the nose. In my opinion, this can't have been a sweet sherry cask, or at least not a new one. On the finish, however, it becomes a little more "musty". That's the sherry influence after all. Good nose overall. 7,8 Palate: dry and astringent before the esters come through. Sweet, overripe banana with solvent. Sherry comes through here too, but only very slightly. These are the somewhat musty aromas. Some pineapple marzipan at the back. Nothing more, but that's enough. A good thing that does what it should. 7,8 A great mixer with a super PLV. I usually use RumFire for daiquiris, but I can imagine using this one for that too...

A very nice Jamaican. Beautiful notes of fruit can be recognized here. Plus, of course, the typical ester notes. A light cherry cask finish but well balanced. Certainly also ideal for cocktails.

the first from the Elements series - Water. A blend of different HD Marques, which then spent another 2 years in a 400 liter sherry cask. Reminds me of the SBS HD high ester bottlings, which were also briefly allowed to sniff PX casks etc...I like it better on the nose than on the palate, where it tastes somehow resinous and also comes across as rather rough.

The positive impressions at the German Rumfest are confirmed today. Great aroma and in terms of price-performance at the forefront - the cocktail world is delighted. The sherry finish is noticeably overloaded here, but not overloaded.

If it wasn't written on the bottle, I would probably never have guessed that this Hampden was allowed to mature in a sherry cask. Apart from a subliminal nuttiness in the direction of almonds, there is nothing to suggest this in my eyes. Instead, it's a Jamaican powerhouse with lots of esters and a not unpleasantly bitter leg note. It's not only great fun as a mixer, but is also surprisingly easy to drink neat and a real reference for the price range.

Full power Hampden that has been tamed somewhat by the 2 years in a sherry cask. You can do that, but I find the original burkes blend much more exciting! The sherry finish has made it a little too sour for me, but I'm generally not a fan of Jamaica and sherry...

Tasted blind, at the end of a nice line of 6 rums. Color, I imagine a short aging with charcoal filtration. It smells fully of Hampden! With strong esterified odors of varnish/glue/very ripe fruits. The mouth is very pleasant, hyper fruity and still the varnish, rounded by the cask. Alcohol very well integrated. Long and fruity mouthfeel. It's good!

From the RumX RA sample set. An almost clear rum- 2y old with sherry finish. What is this colourless magic? Sadly I couldn't be at the live tasting so didn't hear the story behind this Hampden. Probably filtered? Anyway...nose: Creamy. Yoghurt. Sour. And ofcourse the ester/funk/overripe pineapple. A different variant of the typical Hampden funk. Taste: still the yoghurt. Somewhat cheesy. Funk + related notes. Very dry. Tannins? Mmm. Not much wood here. Interesting though. Far from unpleasant.

Tasted on the GRF 12. Quite intense and exciting, but for me personally a little unrounded. The PLV is great and I think I'll have to try it again in a cocktail for the final rating, so 75/100 for now

Poured from a sample. Wow, this stuff fills the room with its aroma. Funky and fruity goodness. Honestly if I had this blind, I would have a hard time figuring out this was aged until the finish, only then do I get a bit of the sherry influences. Overall, a nice bottling of Hampden's higher ester stuff (and the price was great last time I checked)

Tried at the 12th GRF: Good Hampden mixer at a fair price, which certainly mixes good drinks. Personally, I have no use for it and, when in doubt, tend to go for the Rum Fire

RumX Community Tasting with Rum Artesanal for the Tasting Lottery June 2023: Naturally very intense given the alcohol strength, fruit ester par excellence, extremely fresh nose. On the palate with a surprisingly mature appearance given the framework data. The sherry cask actually adds a pleasantly balancing note that is by no means overpowering, but rather provides a pleasant counterpoint. Don't get me wrong - High Ester Jamaica remains very expressive here, the sherry influence is by no means dominant, but brings a balanced, reduced sweetness, which definitely gives the rum a higher profile. Successful and an absolute value-for-money recommendation!

Great rum! And a great way to sherry age. There is a very subtle sherry hint that mostly results in a red fruit / strawberry note. It goes very well with the Hampden profile of this specific rum. An absolute Hampden banger, right in your face! Love it!
