Sip this one neat and it drinks soft and light: citrus, a little caramel, and a clear wine note from the Zinfandel cask, with vanilla and dried fruit behind it. Very nice deep amber color. The Zinfandel finish is subtle. I don’t know that I would be able to identify that it was Zinfandel if not for the labeling. It’s not tremendously sweet for a barrel treatment rum. Very good.

Once again a Donq double cask. And this one is also very soft and balanced. Citrus, a little caramel and an earthy, slightly musty note characterize it. If you're looking for something light or want to delve deeper into cask ageing, this is the one for you. The influence of the wine cask is very clear. Pleasant would be the best word for me.

Definitely worse rums exist. Relatively sweet nose, caramel and honey are recognizable, also slightly roasted. On the palate quite woody, vanilla also shows, otherwise it still has a huge wine touch.

#5549 12.08.2025 Relaxing with some samples while watching a crime series on HBO. Nose Wood, light roasted, wine, light vanilla, faint honey, light earthy, orange, light floral. Palate Wood, light roasted, dry, light oily, light citrus, light vanilla, medium spicy, light tannins, light prunes, light chocolate, wine. Finish Medium long, wood, medium spicy, medium dry, vanilla, light prunes, light chocolate, Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, light berries, prunes.

Clearly better and more balanced than the Port cask finish. The zinfandel cask brings nice aromas of red grapes, red berries, vanilla and cocoa as well as slightly nutty aromas and thus pleasantly complements the rum.

At first fruity citrus notes with biscuit, smells pleasant and light. It continues like this on the palate. Vanilla, some dried fruit and a mild finish. Worth noting is that it is not very sweet. I don't notice the wine cask at all. Solid stuff.
