Younger than you'd guess from the price of admission — this cask-strength Neisson from a single 2018 barrel reads floral and buttery-soft rather than fierce. Sugarcane, young oak and a pastry-vanilla sweetness show up on the palate, drying out to herbal, vegetal notes on the finish. Pleasant and easygoing, but tasters agree the short aging keeps it from getting truly complex.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang / 2024-04-19: Neisson Straight from the Barrel No. 26 vs. No. 252 vs. Depaz 2002 Barrel 706 The two Neisson bottlings are tasty but not really complex. You can tell their relatively short aging time. Some floral, some citrus fruits, butter soft. No. 252 a bit better than No. 26. But neither comes close to the Depaz, which is wonderfully complex and clearly shows its maturity.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 19.04.2024. In the Agricole Battle, Neisson Straight from the Barrel No.26, No.252, and the Depaz CS 2002 Barrel 706 (which is the unfair opponent here) compete. No.26 is drinkable, already good, No.252 is a bit better but the Depaz clearly wins against the other two here. It's simply a different league.

Our Agricole flight tonight: Neisson straight from the barrel no26 vs. No252 vs. (a bit unfair) the Depaz cask strength 2002 barrel 706 26 is quite nice, 252 I like a bit better but the Depaz is the clear, distinctly more mature and more interesting winner with a great nose (with a very slight jackfruit/overripe mango) and palate.

Drunk but not satisfying.. Chamomile is the unique and main descriptor; pleasant but there's not much else.

This rum did sit in the glass for a good 10-15 minutes before the review. On the nose: Sugarcane, floral and woody notes mixed with sweet, buttery pastry kind of notes. Taste: Woody, sugarcane and floral notes come in first. Then the palate changes towards more sweeter notes like vanilla, honey and some kind of pastry note. Balanced. Finish: Little bit of woody notes and then it changes to floral, vegetal and herbal kind of notes. Dry and herbal with little bit of sweetness in the end. Woody,herbal and agricoles notes mixed in with sweet, pastry notes seems to be a theme for this release. I cant stop patting myself on the back for winning this bottle as a 20cl bottle at Rhumauctioneer for 20 pounds. Therefore take this review with a grain of salt and the fact that i am a Neisson fanboy. But its still a very good rum.
