8,3:On the nose, the first impression we get is a chocolate.It comes out charred wood, as there are also praline, leather, some nuts.Fruity notes are secondary, as a vegetal molasses with tobacco. On aeration an orange peel is evident, from spices vanilla and other wood notes with hazelnut, burnt sugar.Brandy finish brings floral and dried fruit notes, all nicely balanced. 8,4:On the palate, the sweet attack comes from charred wood notes with roasted nuts, chocolate, nougat, fudge, caramel.The fruits are dried with an apricots and raisins, later bourbon yellow.The feeling in our mouth is creamy.Spice notes, that we taste are sweet with vanilla and cinnamon, later clove, as our tasting buds could enjoy a cherry fruit compote.The molasses is vegetal, syrupy with black tea, tobacco and mint.Certainly brandy finish balances and rounds up high ABV. 8,3:The finish is long, balanced with notes from the palate, dry, as an addition, the fruits become candied, the wood peppery, with cinnamon... From the first nose I find it very nutty, more precisely it reminds me of Nutella. It also has a certain dominant sweetness on the palate. I’m torn whether it might be sweetened. Unfortunately also very easy drinking. As a mixer also on the easy sipping side. Not bad but unfortunately not stunning either. But for this price you can definitely pick it up.

I find this rum a bit too sweet after all. On the nose lots of wood and barrel as well as some nut. On the palate it gets sweeter, vanilla, chocolate, caramel and nougat are recognizable here alongside some nut.

Crazy nose, if you inhale through mouth and nose at the same time you get pure nuts. Also afterwards lots of nuts. Positive surprise, very successful. Would try this one unusually with lower ABV.

A hidden gem from the Dom. Rep. that is extremely intense on the palate and has gained a lot of sweetness from the strong barrel influence. The finish is also very barrel-heavy and sweet, with a bit of smokiness. A very drinkable rum.

On the nose insanely nutty! Plus caramel and wood, but not barrel wood, more like a freshly broken branch. On the palate a 'classic' Spaniard, pleasant sweetness. Due to the high ABV not an easy sipper, but it doesn’t burn unpleasantly. Interesting stuff, especially considering the fair price. Many thanks to Radebeul for the sample!

That this rum is supposed to have no added sugar, I simply can't believe. Especially on the finish, with every sip more and more sweetness builds up in the aftertaste. The drop itself with its praline-like hazelnut nougat note is already tasty and quite easy-drinking for the high alcohol strength and I also like the cherry-flavored pipe tobacco present in smell and mouth, but overall it's too sweet for me. I'm just not much of a sweet tooth.

Today, clearing some sample backlog again. This time with Spahn's DomRep from 2016. On the nose, my first impression is that I have a strong hazelnut schnapps with plenty of chocolate in the glass. On the palate, typical cask-strength DomRep notes of dark chocolate and plenty of barrel come through. I still taste the hazelnut. Conclusion: Strong cask-strength DomRep that convinces. I really liked it.

Wow, what a positive surprise! Tried the rum on recommendation and I'm seriously impressed. Very intense hazelnut and vanilla notes, the brandy finish (it doesn't always have to be Cognac) makes the rum taste almost sweetened. Dangerously easy to drink at an absolutely competitive price. Perfect as a party gift among curious nerds.
