Sip this neat and the ester hits first — pure Jamaican glue and overripe fruit on the nose — then the Monastrell red-wine cask swings in with dark, sweetish dried apricot, dates and something that reads like port. Spahn's Jamaica Rum. If only our former health minister had been even half as capable as this rum, we would have been spared a lot :-) At least in the nose for me only esters to smell. On the palate, fruits and red wine come in.

Tried at the 12th GRF: red wine finish very dominant, from memory I would guess a Hampden.

From the nose, I would guess a DOK. But there is a strange smell added that I can't place right now. I think it was in the barrel too long. At first it has a funk, but only briefly, then the sourness dominates. Not my thing. For the price actually great.

Price-performance really good, lots of volume percent for 40€, I bought the rum with the idea to pimp some cocktails that need a bit of Jamaica.

A nice interplay of wild distillate and the heavy but sweet Monastrell finish, which (at least for me) in combination rather reminds of port wine. Maybe a Hampden? Either way, very tasty. Value for money definitely 10/10.
