Mint and menthol lead the way here — that unmistakable TDL Trinidad signature — backed by tropical fruit, spice and a faintly medicinal, cognac-cask edge. Distilled in 2009 and finished in Ferrand's "Légendaire" cask, it's rich and long on the palate. Several tasters found the rum and cognac profiles blend into a nice balance, and the 51.3% shows a little warmth without getting hot.

Another example of how TDL works with Cognac at plantat.... Planteray 😉. The profiles harmonize in a beautiful balance of aromas. It's really fun to drink.

Beautiful matte bottle under 100€. You can feel the alcohol, but it's very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. The mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you'll never get tired of.

Some single casks from plantation ( nowadays planteray) are more interesting, others less, but this piece from Alexander Gabriele is a big hit. The nose is instantly apothecary, while the taste is a combination of mint, fruit and technique.

No Plantation Rum Addict Weekend without MasterClass. So for this 3rd part, let's go back to the Saturday morning tasting (it stung a bit, I admit) led by Alexandre Gabriel himself! 🥇TDL 2009 - 51.3% 🥈WIRD JAWS 600-700 esters - 65.6% 🥉Clarendon 2012 - 51.2% 🍫WIRD 8Y - 47.2% 🥩 WIRD High Esters 2500-2600 esters - 64% 🍹 Xaymaca - 43% TDL 2009: very rich/gourmet with a serious length. Selection only available at the château. It has the particularity of having benefited from a 1-year finish in legendary cognac cask. I didn't hesitate long and grabbed a bottle at the sweet price of €90. WIRD JAWS: yes, Plantation is going into high esters. This one is quite lively (especially in the morning). But it has a funky buttery note that's quite interesting. Coconut balances the palate. I think with some tweaks it could be top. To be continued... Clarendon 2012: very tame Jamaican that had a 1-year finish in Drouin Calvados cask (will be in the next batch of Single Casks 2023). WIRD 8Y: does the job but with a porto finish a bit too pronounced. WIRD High Esters: a bit (a lot) too extreme for me (especially after a hangover). A very confusing meaty profile. To retest another day in another context if it ever comes out... Xaymaca: good value for mixology.
