Vanilla, toffee and coconut up front, with a peppery, woody bite that turns dry on the finish. This 12-year Foursquare from a single cask runs hot and spicy at 57%, and most tasters agree a few drops of water pull it together and coax out more flavor. One reviewer found it too dominated by the bourbon cask; others just call it a classic Foursquare that doesn't disappoint.

Yesterday's tasting went a bit overboard so I thin I'll only add the first 6 because we had more than one too many :-) I liked this one with a drop of water which released some additional flavours and reduced the spiciness a bit. Typical Foursquare.

78 points. This Foursquare is much spicier and peppery than the others that I have tasted so far. To be honest, Foursquare isn’t my favourite distillery so my notes should be taken with a grain of salt.

Nice Foursquare bottling. Overall a little harsh - (very) few drops of water greatly enhance the rum and emphasis some of the more spicy notes, adding complexity.

A classic Foursquare but it doesn't disappoint!

Color: Amontillado sherry Smell: Sweet and alcoholic with lots of vanilla and some solvent. Subtle aromas of oak and coconut. Taste: Strong and bitter. Peppery-spicy sharp and alcoholic. Very woody with vanilla, toffee, and a bit of honey. With some water, it only gets slightly rounder. Finish: Long and dry, woody and spicy. Also toffee in the finish and much later licorice.. Conclusion: The longer I spend with this rum, the more I like it. Needs air. Gets better after the opened sample stands overnight. 84 points
