For me, the positive surprise from the third Piracy release. The usual profile of long tropically matured molasses rums from ex-bourbon casks comes to the fore here in its purest form. What does that mean? On the one hand, there is nothing new here in terms of aroma. Belize or Foursquare serve a comparable spectrum; nonetheless, an even more tart tonality brings in new echoes here. It is precisely the familiar aromas of caramel, vanilla, oak and spices that are present here in an appealing form. The alcohol is still somewhat dominant at the beginning, but after a little time in the glass it gives way to the other aromas and reveals a good balance of elegant sweetness, oak wood influences and subtle spicy aromas. If this represents the usual quality of Westerhall releases aged in tropical conditions for a long time, I'm excited to see what else awaits us in the future.

So it doesn't really convince me. It's also a rather sweet rum. We have vanilla, chocolate, caramel and burnt sugar on the nose. On the palate, this rum is similar to the nose, but a little too sweet for me.

Probably the best I've drunk from Grenada to date. Could also pass blind as rum from Belize. It's almost like liquid Nutella, but not sweet! Not a complexity monster but good. On the other hand, almost every Barbados Venezuela or Belize rum is more exciting🫠

8,3:On the nose, toasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, toffee, vanilla, barrel impact is obvious, dried apricots, raisins, citrus fruits and polish, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, banana, orange peel are out, molasses is vegetal, earthy with tobacco, strong oak bias is present, joined by confectionery like biscuits, roasted nuts, cream toffee, leather. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is intense, slightly alcoholic with toasted wood notes like caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, nougat, confectionery, leather, slightly resinous, when the rum is well rested, spicy with nutmeg, vanilla, allspice, salty.Caramel is candied now.Fruits are dried with raisins and apricots, citrus, plums, when aired well, molasses is thick, syrupy, vegetal, earthy with tobacco, musty. 8:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, molasses is vegetal, dark with licorice, black tea, oak is toasted with caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, leather, spicy with cinnamon, peppery and fruits are dried, citrus, tropical with banana hints.

For me, a rather meaningless, neutral rum. In the end, neutral alcohol that has been stored for a long time. The alcohol does stand out a little.

#5229 12.04.2025 running some samples at home while listening to some Goa Psy Trance. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, spice, light honey, light varnish, dried fruit, light banana, faint caramel. Palate Light spicy, wood, light roasted, light caramel, faint citrus, light banana, raisin, faint herbal, light mint. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, raisin, light caramel, light mint, faint floral. Empty glass Honey, vanilla, light caramel, faint herbs, light orange.

A very old Grenada profile with a sweet nose of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar and milk chocolate. The wood, well integrated for its age, lets the spices subtly embellish the nostrils with their vivacity. Hints of citrus and polish add complexity, but remain close to traditional English-style profiles. On the palate, sweet, caramelized notes lead the way, followed by spices (pepper, chili, vanilla, nutmeg) and wood. Coffee, chocolate, roasted notes and bitterness complete this pleasant but generic profile: it's hard to distinguish it from a rum from Barbados or Belize. The alcohol is well integrated, however, and good aeration makes it more elegant and supple on the palate. The finish isn't particularly striking, the aromas fading quickly and leaving us wanting more. A little spice, chocolate, hazelnut, caramel and wood, and that's it. A classic rum, not intrinsically bad, but one whose expectations are not met, especially for Distilia and their emblematic series on piracy, which has accustomed us to high-flying.

Naturally needs some time to breathe. Overall still a too light aroma spectrum. Polish, mineral, hazelnut, dark chocolate, dried fruits, lemon peel, herbs, gingerbread. Bone dry. On the palate then very alcoholic, herbs and very peppery. With water then roasted hazelnut. Short finish. Herbs and caramel. With lots of water it becomes more drinkable. Still nothing. I've had a few continentally aged PMs that were similar. Like these, this Grenada didn't convince me. Probably something for whisky drinkers.

👃 = You can smell the presence of alcohol with woodiness, orchard fruits, lemon, and coffee.. 👄 = We go slowly with the appearance of vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and a bit of glue. The long finish is spicy to remember this tasting. The strength of this rum encourages letting it air for several minutes and possibly adding a drop of water.

#1814 27-07-2026 - 9.0 The second warmup was a even greater surprise then the first Diamond. Why this rum has a rating at 8.1 I beyond me. This is a fantastic rum. Full of great taste an power. This is definitely a bottle I need more samples of and perhaps one for the shelf

First rum from Granada. Intense aromas of wood, cask and caramel accompany you from nose to finish. There are also notes of spices and dried fruit. The rum is pleasantly oily on the palate, with a somewhat stronger finish. The alcohol is well integrated.
