Tasty but doesn't blow me away. For 31 years surprisingly smooth but hardly complex. Overall it feels more Spanish-like, like an old Angostura, but the typical TDL mint, fruit, and dirty Caroni notes are practically absent here.

Many pleasing notes of vanilla, caramel, chocolate; as the taste progresses, subtle spices, a recognizable roasted aroma and reduced mineral-medicinal notes join in. Knowing that recognizable Caroni notes are often present in TDLs from 1991 - which, thanks to the sometimes liberal use of casks from neighbouring distilleries, have little to do with chance - I always have some hope for the classic tar and gum aromas in 1991 Trinidad releases. These play a subordinate role here at best, which is why the overall profile is a little too straightforward. A rum that remains pleasant to drink, unfortunately without any well-founded potential for enthusiasm.

Pleasant drink, good on both nose and palate. Too bad about the alcohol which is slightly intrusive at times. In any case, the prolonged aging has given this rum great character and it definitely deserves to be tasted!

On the other hand, I like this one better again. Not recognizable as T.D.L. at first sip :-) It's rather sweetish. We have vanilla, caramel and a little tobacco. On the palate, the mint comes out slightly.

On aeration, molasses is thick, dark with black tea, licorice, wood resinous, nutty, spicy, dark with cocoa, tar and rubber join, slightly dirty. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is slightly alcoholic, metallic, fruity with dried and citrus fruits, minty with thick molasses, flowery, earthy, dark with black tea, slightly dirty with tar, as oak is roasted with burnt sugar, caramel, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla, allspice, green pepper, resinous and salty, burnt. 8,3:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, dirty,burnt, industrial with rubber, fruity with dried apricots, raisins, tropical, citrus fruits, hints of peaches, oak is toasted with biscuits, cocoa, coffee, spicy with vanilla, barrel impact is obvious, as molasses is minty, earthy with tobacco..

You can smell and taste the 31 years of ageing right from the start. The strong influence of the cask is accompanied by coffee, caramel, chocolate and dried fruit. Despite the long ageing period, the alcohol is not perfectly integrated and is almost a little intrusive, but this is not uncommon at over 60%. Still recommended as a sample.

On the nose, it presents notes of ripe fruit that blend with hints of tar, leather, and wood. Then slowly emerge nuances of licorice, spices, and a menthol touch that gives a nice freshness. On the palate, it is powerful, almost chewy: the high ABV pushes a dense structure made of bitter cocoa, coffee, fruit, spices, and balsamic notes typical of TDL! The finish is long, warm, enveloping, with returns of tobacco and toasted wood! A rum for contemplation with a rich and complex aromatic profile that takes its time for those who really want to appreciate it!!
