LohRum Panama 10y (Batch 2) 2012
Almost everyone agrees the base Panama column rum is a bit plain on its own — the two-month red-wine cask finish is what makes this batch worth talking about. It pours a strange reddish-brown and tastes of ripe grapes, vanilla sugar, burnt sugar and a dry, faintly peppery edge. A couple of tasters wish the wine didn't dominate quite so much, but at 54% the alcohol stays well tucked in.

Wow, was ein klasse Projekt! Ich durfte das Ausgangsmaterial im direkten Vergleich zum Endprodukt testen und bin begeistert! Der 10yo von Sebastian Lauinger ist schon sehr ausgewogen, wie man es von ihm kennt. Aber das Finish im Rotweinfass hebt ihn auf eine andere Ebene. Süß, aber nicht zuckrig unangenehm sondern wie reife Weintrauben, die dem Destillat einen großen Schwung Bums auf der Zunge und am Gaumen mitgeben. Was ich aber überhaupt nicht gedacht hätte, ist der Einfluß in Bezug auf die "Gefälligkeit" auf der Zunge. Er wirkt runder, netter, noch angenehmer als das Urprodukt sowieso schon. Ich ziehe meinen Hut und bin gespannt, wie die beiden weiter machen werden!

Edit: Hab nochmal unvoreingenommen verkostet. Tolles Projekt, dabei bleib ich. Aber das Finish ist mir einfach doch zu dominant. Der Grundstoff geht leider etwas zu sehr unter. Deshalb leider nach unten korrigiert. Zuerst aller größten Respekt an Jarek und Flo1977. Danke das ich diesen mit als erster probieren durfte. Die Bewertung entstand zusammen mit meiner Frau. Da ich leicht angeschlagen bin, kann mein Geschmack ein wenig etwas falsch interpretiert haben. Also die erste Nase war Rotwein, Weinbrand, Traube und ein Hauch Desinfektionsmittel und Fass. Geschmack dominiert der Rotwein, trocken, leichte Schärfe(schwarzer Pfeffer), salzig, holzig, Fass, säuerlich und ein wenig astrigend, denoch weich, rund, aber süffig. Alkohol gut eingebunden. Im Abgang habe ich nochmal einen süßen Apfel rausgeschmeckt. Je länger er im Glas ruht umso säuerlicher wird er. Meine Bewertung ist nicht unbedingt objektiv, da beide zur Nürnberg/Herzogenaurach Community gehören. Also seht es mir bitte nach. Es gibt einfach Bonus Punkte für den Mut allein, so ein Projekt aufzubauen und zum Ergebnis zu bringen. Und das nebenbei in der Freizeit.

Die Farbe im Glas ist erstaunlich rot-bräunlich. Am Gaumen dominiert das Rotweinfass deutlich, aber man kann den Grundstoff aus Panama noch erkennen. Alkohol ist gut eingebunden. Macht richtig Spaß! Ich habe dankenswerterweise noch ein Sample des Grundstoffes bekommen. Umso erstaunlicher finde ich, dass das Finish von nur 2 Monaten solch eine Auswirkung zeigt. Den Grundstoff finde ich eher eindimensional, der Alkohol ist nicht gut eingebunden….

Tolles Fassexperiment aus dem Kreis der Franconian Tasting Gang - das Panama-Profil wird flankiert von intensiven Noten von Vanillezucker, verbranntem Zucker und Marshmallows - nicht zu plump süss, sondern spannend. Verrückt, dass das aus einem Rotweinfass resultiert!
