TRC Hampden Jamaica HLCF 1998
People already into Hampden will get this one: a continentally-aged 1998 HLCF at cask strength, with the usual esters, pineapple and citrus-marmalade, plus roasted wood, glue and a briny olive edge. Several tasters flag an odd note — fennel, bitter almond, or a cherry-yogurt tang — that splits opinions. The 63.2% is well tucked in, but it's drier and less tropical-intense than the famous 92 HLCFs.

Dry cask-strength HLCF with an odd twist Well-integrated cask-strength Hampden with esters, pineapple and dry wood. Most like it, but many note an unusual, slightly odd side note and rank it below the great 92 HLCFs.

initially a strange note, which I locate somewhere between fennel and alkali. But this fortunately dissipates quite quickly. Then come the usual HLCF notes like fermented fruit, citrus jam, pineapple, pastry. On the palate, citrus, barrel and a salty finish. Overall decent, but it is also already missing a good bit to the excellent 92s HLCFs of Nobilis or RumClub (Ed. 18).

09.05.2016 Evening out with colleagues and good rums. Notes Light in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, light glue, fruity, ester, banana, overripe, light floral. Palate Oily, warm, ester, light medicinal, fruity, citrus, naturally sweet, faint floral, light chocolate. Finish Long and warm, oily, medium dry, fruity, wood, olive.

Hampden with a few strange notes. On the nose is pretty typical HLCF profile, and even a bit bold as the tropical ageing usually are. Esters, ananas and maybe even a cheery note both on the nose and when drinking. Drink side, this rum adds annoiky body and a iodine trait really noticeable when close to the end

very fruity and balanced on the nose. On the palate the wood dominates the fruits, very dry and a bit saulty. A very smooth hint of esters on both palate and nose.

After a long time times again in the glass.... I had to lower it a bit from my rating. It is a great release out of question....

One of the most prominent features for me was the taste of a candy called atomic fireball - quite a bit of cinnamon.

Solider 98er kontinentaler Hampden. Alkohol super eingebunden. Schöne seltene Abfüllung, danke für das Sample

A Hampden a little too floral and grapefruit for my taste. It's still good but not top notch.
