Velier Arawaks Clairin Ansyen Vaval (The Nectar) 2018
Most tasters land on the same word: fresh. This is a grassy, citrus-forward Haitian clairin with floral notes, light glue and a faint smoky edge from a Caroni cask finish most people can barely detect. A few find it almost too light, and one called the finish technical and a bit hollow. Bright and vegetal rather than rich and sweet.
- Fresh and grassy
- Bright citrus
- Easy 50% strength

#4520 09.12.2023 This is a very fresh profile with a medicinal touch. The palate is well rounded with light glue and a faint smoky note. The finish is medium to long with a nice citrus touch. The empty glass has some faint tar and light caramel.

Hintenraus recht scharf.

The colour is quite light. I guess the barrel hasn't done much spinning. Aroma very pleasant, not intrusive, mostly fruity. First sip quite sharp and the finish terribly dull. The next sip is not much better. There's some technicality there, but somehow it doesn't fit. I like white Clairins and their aging, but this is one of the weakest pieces for me.

Blind tasting, therefore sensibly without the usual photo. I don't like the taste of rum at all, especially the finish, which tastes like pickled wood (who does that!?). I'm unable to classify the country. Resolution: RX16631 (Confirmed once again: This clairin-caroni combo is just not my cup of tea).
