At the nose in direct comparison between the Ricci and CDI, the CDI is fresher and brings clearly more mint/menthol, but a bit less fruit or more citrus fruits. The Ricci is fruitier and sweeter, with more spices, slightly smoky. Both please me very much just on the nose. On the palate, the CDI really makes noise with full mint power, tea, but also some peach and spices. Nice oily texture in the mouth. The Ricci is rounder on the palate and less mint/menthol-forward, but also nicely intense with subtle dirty notes. Edit: After having had the drop 3 times in the glass, I have to raise the score a bit. Really absolutely successful bottling, although not cheap, while current releases are not cheaper.

Three T.D.L. in comparison: Swell: Very decent and relaxed TDL, which does not taste at all like 20 years of barrel aging. On the palate creamy sweet with the usual mint note, balanced with light fruits. The finish is very short and simply sweet minty with olives. 80 points. TWJ 2009: By now I find the 2009 vintage among the best. Lots of fruit, present in intense quality from start to finish. Particularly striking is the caramelized honeydew melon. The mint still has the last word in the finish =D Very awesome piece 87 points. Ricci 2003: The "heaviest" of the three. A full-bodied mint candy bomb. On the palate the mint becomes more intense, the fruits darker. Great rum, lots of mint. 85 points. Alcohol is top integrated in all. Due to the short finish the Swell falls a bit.

After my TDL 2003 cross-tasting yesterday, I found a latecomer with the Ricci, which now has to prove itself between a representative from 04/2003 (the Kill Devil 18yo) and 02/2003 (the Nobilis). The Kill Devil is so minty and room-filling that I have to search the noses of Nobilis and Ricci for a long time. Once found, Ricci shows itself much stronger and less vanilla than Nobilis. It brings a shot of mint besides the typical peach iced tea. Also dark wood and polish. That's a very nice profile – more from the April batch, but not as in-your-face minty as Kill Devil. The elegant yellow dried fruits of Nobilis are completely missing in Ricci. On the palate a similar picture. Kill Devil stands out due to its sharpness, Nobilis brings the known yellow dried fruits, very elegant and almost without menthol. Ricci brings the menthol almost as intense as Kill Devil, but much better integrated. Integrated into an intense woodiness, some ginger and bitter citrus aromas between lemon peel and bergamot. The intense fruitiness I know from CDI Premium Spirits has a different side here. Besides the mentioned citrus notes, there are rather dry fruits and black currant – which overall reminds me more of the dark 2001 TDLs. The finish is long and fresh with lasting mint. An excellent representative of the 2003 vintage, clearly the best from yesterday's cross-tasting. Would love to taste it against Premium Spirits.

9:On the nose, the first impression we get is very balanced, fresh with herbaceous, flowery, minty molasses, as tea is black, there are sweet notes of a roasted wood with nuts and a caramel, some dried fruits and dirty industrial accents with a petrol. On aeration, spices are stronger, so do tropical fruits with mango and some citrus, medicinal notes with rubber and menthol, smoky wood with a dark chocolate, shortly great😀. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is sweet, round and balanced, delicious with honey and candied fruits, fresh and flowery, the wood is roasted, spicy with allspice and fruity with yellow and tropical fruits, later citrus.After resting the rum, a molasses is grassy, herbaceous, a bit earthy with a tobacco, some vanilla and gingerbread occupy our buds, menthol and juicy fruits. 8,8:The finish is long, dry, tannic, dirty, spicy and smoky, as notes are mostly copied from the palate, perhaps some crunchy bread comes out also... Really good TDL. Great fruit (citrus & lychee) fresh mint and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of gingerbread and candied ginger. Very tasty. Alcohol also very well integrated. :)

Blind sample from versus, many thanks for that. On the nose nice fruit, somewhat settled which speaks for several years of tropical aging. Also noticeable is the sweet honey note. On the palate initially nicely round. We have a certain sweetness and a strong taste of orange fruits. Would guess a Bielle, maybe an original bottling about 8 years. Let's see. Tastes very good anyway.

Mint, tropical fruit, classic image of the 2000 TDLs. Appealing aromatic depth on the palate, fresh mint and menthol aromas, subtle fruit esters, plus roasted aromas from the barrel. The influence of the wood is already quite present, but still perfectly integrated into the overall profile. Another top representative of the TDLs from the post-2000s era.

A wonderful bottle! Already tasted twice at fairs and now tasted more calmly with a friend who owns a bottle. All the characteristics of an excellent TDL 2003 are present: Big fruity blackcurrant, tangue. Controlled woodiness, soft menthol freshness and a salty side that I like. Very balanced as a juice!

#7103 30.07.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after a nice day at work and 25 kms of walking. Watching a TV Series calles "Swamp Murders". Very good TDL in my mind and the price tag at release is also pretty decent. Well balanced profile with fruits, spice, floral, roasted wood, caramel and some honey.

That might be a great rum for some, but for me it's a bit too mint and menthol bomb-like. Exactly what you expect and get from the 2003 bottlings. I'm probably just oversaturated by now.

Great bottling. The 2003 vintage suits me much better than the 2001, which I simply enjoy. Here, in addition to the mint/eucalyptus notes, there are also currant and more pronounced tobacco notes. Slightly sweet but delicious.

My first TDL from Ricci. Super good! On the nose fruit, wood, roasted aromas and mint (in the background). On the palate the mint then comes powerfully forward. A great representative of the 2003 vintage. I would like a bottle of that.

A T.D.L 2003 in line with those I have already tasted. The nose is very vegetal and mostly carried by menthol. Lovely tropical fruits. But overall quite a dark frame. On the palate, biting alcohol at first. Then immediately a big bitterness doubled with menthol freshness. Discreet fruits, the bitter and woody notes dominate. And they intensify even more with a black tea style finish. Very good but I put it behind the Swell, CDI or Samaroli that I have tasted.

An outstanding TDL 2003. Here is everything I expect from a TDL. Mint, nice herbs and menthol. Also some citrus fruit. All perfectly integrated with nice spice and long finish. The rum benefits from some oxygen. I like it wonderfully, even if it has rather less fruit. Could also be a 2001.

It's my first time encountering a bottling from Famille Ricci, but I have to admit that in this case they chose a beautiful representative of T.D.L. Fruit, light mint, noticeable barrel and perfectly integrated alcohol. The finish is medium-long and fruity.

I enjoy the cool moments in daylight after the sun has disappeared behind the mountain with a few samples. This 20-year-old TDL is really a bomb. At first in the nose I had green apple, then freshness with mint, tea and wood join in along with dried fruits. The palate is intense and full-bodied. Fresh, mentholated with bitter orange. Slightly peppery woody at the back. The finish is damn dry with lots of tannins from the wood, plus black tea. Really awesome stuff. Trinidad is gradually pushing past Guyana into my favorites list.😉

Very typical T.D.L., fruits like grenadine or grapefruit, with a fresh background. A medicinal side, a very slight bitterness reminiscent of black tea. Nice length. Not my favorite. Generally on TDLs, I find it a pity that there are rarely reductions...

Nice Trinidad, 2003, the parallel with the Trinidad from Compagnie des Indes, 2003 can easily be made, this one is less on spices and more on the roundness of fruits and menthol, balanced between yellow fruits such as mango, papaya and guava and red fruits like berries. The quality-price ratio may not be there. However, the mastery of this bottling must be highlighted.

An excellent TDL. The nose strongly marked by blackcurrant. The palate is a symphony of red fruits, tropical fruits, mint and caramel. A nice length. Congrats on this selection. One of the most beautiful bottlings of the year.
