Review by Paul Segui
The nose is quite bewitching, it's definitely old agricole but it's subtle. It's more appealing than the 3-year-old, which looks much older indeed. I'm letting it open up and more and more aromas are coming through. The vanilla is discreet, but blends well with the wood. It's fresh and old at the same time. With opening and agitation, a real tobacco nose arrives, along with other fruits. It's quite dry and original, and compared to the nose at the beginning, it's really worth letting it open up. The first mouthfeel is superb, with a real agricultural aggressiveness, very spicy at first, then a magnificent woodiness (...)

Weak, boring nose. Very spicy and unbalanced taste. Burns in the finish. I taste nothing of the 12 years.

Typical Martiniquais.woody and vanilla. It's not my favorite type of rum, but it's quite pleasant all in all.Edit: impressions confirmed on second tasting.

This is a very nice rum and it's one of my everyday rums when relaxing after work.

Not spectacular, a little low body, but a good everyday rum.

An interesting, light, round rum that I would include as an "appetizer" before drinking larger ABS rums. An interesting scent, where I could slightly smell the funky jamaica, but primarily I found sweetness (vanilla), fruit and chocolate. Taste - grass, wood, fruit, spice Finish - medium, balanced, cherry, wood, grass, fruit

A lovely accompaniment to a cigar, smooth and tobacco-scented.

8,2:On the nose, the first impression we get is a juicy sugarcane with yellow fruits, tea and roasted, toasted, a bit smoky wood notes like nuts, caramel, then citrus and dried fruits. On aeration, very enticing confectionery arises with biscuits, pastry, spices like vanilla, cinammon and nutmeg, later maggi and more vegetal stuff with tobacco and flowery touch. 8,4:On the palate, the first attack is tasty with juicy sugarcane honey, spicy, earthy, then yellow and dried fruits, the wood is roasted with nuts, caramel, chocolate, vanilla. After resting the rum, vegetal aspect instills with tea, a but waxy, the fruits become candied, there is some citrus with an orange. 8,3:The finish is long with dry and roasted wood, spicy, the sugarcane is still juicy and more vegetal as before with earthy, flowery notes, tea and grass.New fruits notes arrive, like cherry and passion fruit...

Very good Rhum vieux from la Martinique. Strong flavour not affordable for every mouths. Personally I find some taste of licorice in it and I love it.

On the nose, a seductive woodiness is omnipresent. But I'm surprised to find something very fruity (cherry) too! The nose is greedy, and the alcohol is hardly noticeable. There's an abundance of dried fruit, spices and chocolate. As you might have imagined from the nose, the woodiness takes center stage in this 1st attack on the palate. But the other aromas soon come to the fore: vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon, peppers... and dried fruit. A long finish of chocolatey woodiness keeps this rum in touch, but I only regret the slight bitterness. Conclusion: this is a fine, well-balanced rum! Top value for money

Right up my alley in the Agricole division. Grass and polish in the nose. Fruit, grass and spice in the mouth. A little edgy that I like, maybe not for all

I can’t believe how much better this is than the 7 year version, which I was not impressed by at all. My hunch that Bally’s need a tremendous amount of age to come into their own is really born out here. Very excited to try even higher ageings from Bally now 👌
