Rhum Supérieur Grand Arôme 1970s
Dried dates, amarena cherry and old cask lead the way, with herbal, leathery notes and a dry, spiced palate underneath. This is a vintage Martinique Grand Arôme from another era — molasses-based, dense and complex, with cocoa, tobacco and bitter-herb edges. At 54% the alcohol sits surprisingly well integrated. Several tasters found it hard to place but easy to enjoy; more savory and herbal than sweet.

How does Rhum Supérieur Grand Arôme 1970s taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Dense, herbal vintage Martinique sipper A dense, herbal old Martinique rum tasters loved for its cherry-and-spice nose and complexity. A couple felt the palate didn't quite match the nose, and it reads more dry than sweet.

Old Martinique rum with unusually dense aromatics. On the nose dark fruits, molasses and a fine spiciness, accompanied by slightly medicinal notes. On the palate strong, dry and complex with hints of wood, caramel and a bit of herbaceousness. The alcohol feels surprisingly present but not disturbing. Overall an exciting document of its time with character and depth, rather bitter than sweet.

Rum Rarities #9: Noticeably reminds, as described elsewhere, of the 1998 Damoiseaus, especially the RA, with which it shares a somewhat sour, citrusy note. Otherwise, the rum tastes spicy in a rather unspecific way, the finish is rather short. A great specimen from the nostalgia and curiosity cabinet, but in my view clearly far from a top rum.

RumX Rarities day 9. A heavy and herbal nose, woody, angelica, dried dates and amarena cherry. The alcohol is very well integrated, the oak is very present but without heaviness. Amarena cherry and bitter plants. Very long finish, always with the same flavors. The empty glass exhales heavy and warm scents. A very beautiful rum very coherent in aromas. I had guessed a Damoiseau 1980. Re-tasted and it loses some points compared to very beautiful more modern grand aromas.

A Grand Arôme de Martinique rum from a bygone age, distinguished by its fine aromas. The nose is elegant and old-fashioned, evoking rancio, aromatic herbs, old leather, spices, cocoa wood and red, dried and exotic fruits. You can tell that time has taken its toll. On the palate, the rum is elegant, refined and delicate, but with a certain liveliness that suits it perfectly. A balance between finesse and power is achieved, with dried fruit (prune), herbaceous and floral notes contrasting with old leather, spices and honeyed notes of nougat, marshmallow and caramel. The alchemy between the flavors is very good. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long and dry, returning to more bitter notes, rancio and herbal aromas. Spice and woodiness line the palate with cocoa, dried fruit, caramel and nougat. A particularly well-preserved and aromatic piece of history, to be savored at its best.

the #9 from the Rarities calendar. On the nose there are red fruits with a slightly sour touch, plus beet or earthy notes, herbal candy and old barrel...on the palate tobacco, nutmeg, herbs and somehow surprisingly sweet. A wacky piece that I really enjoy!

Very tasty overall profile. Dense aromas of dark fruits, wood, spices, fresh aromas - great complexity. Outstanding quality.

15.06.1990 Café Baxx, Kolding which is no more. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, light roasted, clove, dried fruit, floral, light cherry. Palate Intense, balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, light herbs, spice, dried fruit, light cherry. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, cherry, vegetal, light herbs. 4.5 start of 5.0 which should amount to 9.0 in today's rating. Extra note. Extremely good rum at a pretty good sipper price, I paid 35 DKK for 2 cl.

Blind tasted during the RumX Rarities Experience and I can't place it anywhere. The only thing I can say is that I like it. Fruity and sweet on the nose, spicy and sweet on the palate.

The UFO! I've never tasted this, thanks for this rumx rarities #9, and the opportunity to taste a rum from another time. Hard to describe, it's strong, intense, but fine and complex. Incredible discovery, I love it.

Nice rum, tasty. French, but already clearly tending towards molasses.

Later corrected upwards again. Once more a true gem from Jakob's probably never-ending treasure chest. Thanks for that.

Herrliche Nase.
