Rhum Supérieur Grand Arôme 1970s
Dried dates, amarena cherry and old leather come through on a heavy, herbaceous nose that keeps perfuming the empty glass for days. A 1970s Martinique grand arôme that drinks dry and spiced rather than sweet — wood, prunes, clove and bitter herbs, with the 54% folded in cleanly. Tasters call it intense yet fine, a real piece of history more than an everyday pour.
- Cherry-herb nose
- Dense complexity
- Well-integrated alcohol

How does Rhum Supérieur Grand Arôme 1970s taste?
Aggregated from 20 community reviews.
Dry, spiced old Martinique with a stunning nose Loved as a rare old Martinique with dense fruit, wood and spice, and a long warm finish. A few find the palate doesn't quite match the gorgeous nose, but most are won over.

RumX Rarities jour 9.

Tasted an old St. Gilles, which is very similar to this one, especially on the nose. However, this one is much denser with more character but above all complexity. I like it very much.

A Grand Arôme de Martinique rum from a bygone age, distinguished by its fine aromas. The nose is elegant and old-fashioned, evoking rancio, aromatic herbs, old leather, spices, cocoa wood and red, dried and exotic fruits. You can tell that time has taken its toll. On the palate, the rum is elegant, refined and delicate, but with a certain liveliness that suits it perfectly. A balance between finesse and power is achieved, with dried fruit (prune), herbaceous and floral notes contrasting with old leather, spices and honeyed notes of nougat, marshmallow and caramel. The alchemy between the flavors is very good. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long and dry, returning to more bitter notes, rancio and herbal aromas. Spice and woodiness line the palate with cocoa, dried fruit, caramel and nougat. A particularly well-preserved and aromatic piece of history, to be savored at its best.

the #9 from the Rarities calendar. On the nose there are red fruits with a slightly sour touch, plus beet or earthy notes, herbal candy and old barrel...on the palate tobacco, nutmeg, herbs and somehow surprisingly sweet. A wacky piece that I really enjoy!

Very tasty overall profile. Dense aromas of dark fruits, wood, spices, fresh aromas - great complexity. Outstanding quality.

15.06.1990 Café Baxx, Kolding which is no more. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, light roasted, clove, dried fruit, floral, light cherry. Palate Intense, balanced, complex, wood, light roasted, light herbs, spice, dried fruit, light cherry. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, cherry, vegetal, light herbs. 4.5 start of 5.0 which should amount to 9.0 in today's rating. Extra note. Extremely good rum at a pretty good sipper price, I paid 35 DKK for 2 cl.
