Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, Day 19. A fruity, heavy and spicy nose. Banana and mango, dried fruit, esters, oak, varnish and Christmas spices. The palate is lively, with spices, cedar wood and dried fruit. The finish is long and balanced, but lacks complexity. A fine rum, but I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it.

Once again a very good 2001 Fiji. It’s more on the spicy herbal side but very balanced. The alcohol is very integrated and carries the flavors well and clearly. It doesn’t quite reach my benchmark of the Fiji Flag LMDW... but still a very good bottling.

This bottling once again confirms the exceptional vintage of Fiji. A special and unique profile. For me, the tomato skin on the nose is particularly striking. The whole thing is very complex and has a lovely long finish.

Beautiful release, which on the one hand shows the long years in the barrel on the palate, but on the other hand does not lack freshness. Pleasant fruit aromas meet barrel notes, tea and spices. A convincing Fiji from 2001.

The Ricci family bottling brings exactly what you expect from a 2001 rum from Fiji. Beautiful ester notes paired with fruits. The alcohol is well integrated here. The spice is rather dominant, but that doesn't bother.

Fijis have been popular and coveted in connoisseur circles for years. Nevertheless, my experience shows that you can sometimes find a pig in a poke on the palate, regardless of the key data. So every Fiji is exciting for me. A cross-tasting today. 1. sbs 2009 11yo: boring. a bit of dirty fiji notes, but equal parts vanilla and licorice. 77 pts (2nd tasting: -4 pts). 2nd Famillie Ricci 22yo: Delicious, very balanced, alcohol well integrated, somewhat peppery on the palate, astringent and sweet at the same time. The finish is short. Delicious 83 pts. 3rd Swell de Spirits 9yo: Very smooth on the attack, that changes immediately! xD A cigar smoked quickly turns into smoke and adche immediately. During this change, the rum is very astringent and mouth-filling on the palate, awesome! A lot happens here (including dirty notes) in a very short time and at the end there is ash. Smooth, wild and smoky at the same time. The only drawback is the poorly integrated alcohol, which results in an unpleasantly long finish. But at least we have 66% abv here. My expectations are perhaps simply too high in this respect. Interesting and I would love to know how it tastes after a few months or even years in the bottle. 85-88 pts. 4. the whisky jury fiji 2012: well, i should have tried this one before the swell. my mouth is still full of swell fiji xD 10 minute break. Much more pleasing, reminiscent of the elegance of a Neisson on the attack and then it strikes again, like a Fiji. Dirty flavors garnished with vanilla. delicious, complex but also quite spicy. the finish is pleasantly dry, young grass and vanilla, some spice. Delicious. I have the feeling that my palate is still inspired by the blatant swell =D 85 pts. Chapeau to the Swell, it won't leave me alone. Makes me very curious. This relationship could become quite "toxic" if it gives me a chance.

A somewhat more classic 2001 Fiji. Green pepper, rubber, green tea, and nice oily notes of citrus fruits cooked down to marmalade. The finish is complemented by passion fruit and black tea, black pepper, as well as dark browned caramel and burnt "stamped" leather and iodine. Great smokiness without being intrusive. Very nice complexity, excellent alcohol integration and generally a well-rounded bottling.

Nice Fiji, very round and mild. On the nose notes of the cask, slightly peppery and tropical fruits. This potpourri continues on the palate. From the nose to the long aftertaste, I really like the tea aromas.

The 2001 vintage from Fiji simply delivers high quality. So does the Ricci family bottling. Fruity ester note, slight honey sweetness, cask notes. Alcohol is well integrated. Rounded bottling, but lacks the complexity to keep up with the 2001 from LMDW.

#6595 04.04.2026 Back home after a hard 20 km hike, where my wife was the first female at the finish line. Listening to some nice Vini Vici and Charlotte de Witte. Another nice bottling from Ricci. The nose is medium intense and has light tar, mango, olive and light soke. The palate is oily and warm with light roasted wood, light grass, tar, mango, faint rubber and a light floral touch. The finish is long, oily and warm with wood, dried fruit, light tar and olive.

Beautiful technical aroma, which is only made in this form by this distillery. A bit of tropical fruit and honey with maybe marzipan. Nicely rounded body, quite fruity and with honey. Fruity finish with medicinal notes, mint and herbs. Maybe there was also a hint of Caroni dirtiness. A great piece.

Golden RFC 2024 advent calendar Fiji has recently become my secret favorite for its instant glue notes, because I like technical quirks and Caroni is slowly running out. I got the glue again, this time very enhanced with tea. Nice. Very nice.

Nose is amazing. In the taste fruits, wood and spicy. Rum is dry, but in aftertaste the wood taste disappear. Remains only spicy and smoke. Fiji is always very interesting to taste. Heavy alcohol, mixed with esters, two worlds are connecting in Fiji. This rum is very good.
