There’s a bit of overripe banana/mango funk on the nose, befitting the label’s “petite arômes” [sic] promise, along with acetone, cinnamon sweetness, and some barrely vanilla. On the palate, the rum is drier than the sweetness of the nose suggests but still hits pretty strong with the overripe banana and a good bit of barrel oak, along with a bit of allspice and golden raisin. The finish is medium with woody notes lingering on the palate. It doesn’t exactly have the complexity/evolution of flavor of a grand arôme rum or a high ester Jamaican, but for an American offering it has a solid flavor punch. I’d like to try it in a Mai Tai and see how it stands up.
