Lost style, unknown distillery. No comparison possibilities come to mind. Most comparable to a Galion or Courcelles. French style, meaty umami notes. A bit of smoke and BBQ roast aromas. Noticeably very old. Hard to rate on a 100-point scale. Great experience

Tasting of four nineteenth-century rums. A first nose of red wine quite surprising! You also of course feel the fruits (yellow fruits and pineapple) and cognac too. A first palate unfortunately diluted, then the fruits arrive, tropical fruits and yellow fruits with apple. The finish is rather short even if wood and apple remain quite long with a kind of umami.

It's exciting for me to try such an old Rhum that could come from one of the distilleries destroyed by the eruption of Mount Pelée in 1902. On the nose it's fragrant/floral with medicinal and smoky notes, you can also spot some distant fruit and tobacco/cocoa/coffee/wood. All very light and delicate, it's hard to make out anything clearly. On the palate it's soft and floral (frangipane) with some smoky and licorice/spice notes, but all very light and diluted. I think this is also due to its age and imperfect storage; it has definitely lost something. In the empty glass very slight aged notes. A profile that doesn't differ much from other island rums produced in the 60s/70s. Probably a bottle freshly made and opened at the time would have scored between 7 and 8.
