Fantastico!
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
Yesterday's tasting went a bit overboard so I thin I'll only add the first 6 because we had more than one too many :-) This one, though expensive, is well worth the money.

By far this is one of the best Foursquare's I have tried! It's just so deliciously balanced. It's laid back Barbados but its so well assembled! Fruits, vanilla, milk chocolate and caramel blend in so well to make one heck of a dram. Definitly a step up for me. It is mainly a collectors bottle these days, they are worth a lot of money if you can find it! Fortunately I got my bottle in 2019 when the pricing was still half realistic. Just a great rum to try. A medium to long finish.

Very good Foursquare from Velier, which already stands out clearly from virtually all ECS Foursquares in the nose and underlines its outstanding position on the palate accordingly. We are talking about nuances here, but they are the decisive factor in the pleasure area. It is a pleasure to recognize and enjoy them.

Overall a fantastic first release of a Foursquare by Velier, no wonder this collaboration continued. We were some friends teaming up at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm to celebrate Foursquare Appreciation Day. After our planned tasting of four different Foursquare ECS’s led by our friend the Swedish importer, Lars Renbjer, we went on with two Foursquare Velier releases. Secondly out was the 2006 the 1st rum in the collaboration between Luca Gargano of Velier and Richard Seale of Foursquare. It’s a blend of molasses based rum from Copper double retort pot still and Coffey column still distilled in 2006. It’s tropical aged for ten years of which three years were in ex-Bourbon barrels and the following seven in ex-Cognac barrels.

For my 100th tasting, I felt like I had to find something special. The nose is potent but kind of sweet, and I'm getting tropical fruits and some hints of caramel. I feel like the rum has to breathe for a while, as the ABV leaves your mouth tingling. The notes I got was complex; dark berries, almost licorice-like taste, and oak

A mastered foursquare that is soft, a pleasant freshness combined with caramelized aromas and a balanced woodiness.

Here really many compliments to foursquare!Intense and elegant throughout its tasting! It doesn't let you feel its gradation and has a beautiful harmony of flavors!

Despite blind tasting, clearly a Foursquare ubd clearly with a finish. So far the best Foursquare I've had the pleasure of drinking.

An exceptional run. The nose is more subtle than many Foursquare rum’s, light vanilla and wood with some caramel. The mouth brings more layers, complex and a slight alcoholic edge, vanilla, raisin and caramel. Finish is long, with oak and spice and some mocha. For sure top tier, think the cognac influence brings a bit of elegance and all the classic Barbados hallmarks. Look forward to trying again and seeing how the bottle evolves

Equalized to diamond 1999 svw, no point more or less, more balanced and elegant, but also less expressive as well

Edit: The Swell and the Barbados 2006 Flag Series have been added to the big crosstasting of the Velier bottlings. Unfortunately it has not yet been possible to get a sample of the 70th. In general, it can be said that there were no major differences on the nose when flying blind. However, there are recognizable differences in the taste itself. In my opinion, however, three clearly stand out and bring up the rear. Franconian Tasting Gang goes Tiki For me, the BEST Foursquare I've had in a glass. A BIG THANK YOU to Jakob for giving me the rest of the "small" sample. I would just like to know if the Destino can top this bottling.
