"Nice bold nose but in taste the sweetness is dominating other notes" pretty much sums up the crowd here. The maple finish runs the show — think maple syrup, chocolate, caramel and honey all leaning sweet. A few tasters found it pleasant for an evening pour, though several wished it weren't watered down at 40%. Easy, simple, and clearly sweetened rather than complex.

Solid rum, but you can tell it's totally watered down. Naturally quite sweet, we've got chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and honey here. Definitely better with a higher ABV. Shame about the rum.

Surprisingly sweet, very strong maple syrup flavor and very mild. Despite the 2% higher alcohol compared to the regular Barceló Imperial, you actually don't notice it at all. I have to be in the mood for this one, too sweet for mixing and actually not "rummy" enough. But for dessert and when I have a craving for something sweeter, really not bad.

The maple syrup definitely sets the aromatic tone here. Complexity is therefore absent. Overall, still relatively dry despite the finish. However, I find it lacking a bit of finesse. More of an easy sipper and beginner-friendly.

When opening and first smelling, the Barceló Maple Cask comes across as strongly alcoholic with notes of glue and thinner. However, these smells dissipate quite quickly. Afterwards, notes of licorice, chocolate, and vanilla emerge. Alongside, there are vegetal notes that strongly remind one of Rhum Agricole. On the palate, you can recognize influences of caramel and honey, as well as wood and nutty notes that are definitely present. The rum is okay, but I had hoped for more from this already special cask. I believe a longer aging in the barrel or a higher alcohol content would have done it better.

It's everything you would expect. Sweet, maple syrup, caramel and chocolate in that order. It is simple rum, definitely more than 20 g/L of sugar, but it's not syropy sweet
