Description: JG Thomson Bold Jamaican Rum 46° is a molasses rum produced in Jamaica, made entirely in pot still distillation. It is produced by the brand JG Thomson, relaunched in 2021 by the Artisanal Spirits Company (ASC) group, owner of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The rum is distilled 100% in pot still, giving it a rich and complex expression. After distillation, it is aged for three years in used bourbon barrels under the Jamaican tropics, where the climate accelerates interaction with the wood and develops deep aromas. It is then shipped to Scotland for further maturation, allowing a refined finishing of the aromatic profile. The rum is non-chill filtered, with no added coloring or sugar, to preserve its natural character and intense aromas. It is bottled at 46% ABV, with no specific age statement, but it is known to be at least three years aged. Palate: First sip and I can say it's at least an 8 for me. Very very light ester-chocolate, fruity, honeyed. At 46%, it goes down easily. If I had the bottle, I'd pour myself a second glass without any problem. Finish: long, lightly fruity. And oily. Conclusion: very very nice to discover. Would I buy a bottle? I'm thinking about it even though I find 50€ maybe a bit too expensive. At 40-45€, I'd hesitate even less but since all prices have gone up, I wonder if this isn't its fair price. In any case, I add it to my wish list and hope to get it on promotion.

On the nose, you can smell the blend. Young. Overripe pineapple and banana. Light esters. Warm island spices. Slightly smoky. Tart palate on kumquat, passion fruit, ripe pineapple. A little sweet and salty. Short finish on lemon zest.
