Salted licorice is what grabs you first — bold, herbal, almost medicinal, not the caramel bomb 23 years might suggest. Underneath sit pencil shavings, a metallic tang, dryoak and anise, with just a flash of vanilla and toffee for relief. Pot-still Diamond at nearly 63%, it's dry and concentrated rather than sweet. Members call it demanding but rewarding — it opens up the longer you sit with it.

Bottle opened for 1 month. I can say that I like this rum a lot. I mainly recommend it to quite experienced amateurs, because it offers great complexity and I think it will still evolve. The nose is a mix of wood, yellow fruits, brown sugar, and a touch of petroleum and iris flower. Palate: you have to let the palate tame it; the woodiness is dominant on barrel, licorice stick, and root. Fruit rather in the background and some medicinal notes. Once tamed, the fruit becomes more present like plum. The finish is long and reprises the same aromas as on the nose. It's a beautiful taste journey!

Both on the nose and on the palate, a lot of this rum takes place in the rather extreme flavors - the rum challenges, jumps from bone-dry medicinal notes to tart-bitter wood influences, almost boasts with rich salt liquor, only to then flash a hint of caramel and vanilla in the next sip. For me, the rum becomes more interesting with each new attempt, because the flavor spectrum is so versatile and always reveals new facets. In itself not fully my preferred type of rum, but still very impressive. An inspiringly intense release.

Powerful Diamond with a classic, rather heavy Demerara profile. On the nose dark fruits, molasses, a bit of licorice and spicy wood. On the palate dense and dry with lots of oak, spices, some cocoa and a slightly bitter note. Seems concentrated and quite complex, without being overly sweet. A solid, characterful Guyana.

Quite pale for the age... I guess a non-colored Diamond. Nose is very fruity and almost fresh with light esters, peach, and yellow dried fruits. Vanilla, a bit of pencil, alcohol present. On the palate very strong, light sweetness... herbs, vanilla, pencil, leather, licorice, and anise.

A really well-rounded Diamond with both bitter and fruity aromas. Pencil shavings are omnipresent, as well as a metallic note. Alongside, licorice, chocolate, wood, and caramel alternate in intensity.

This rum reminds me of the black cherries from my parents' garden. Flesh including pits, dark fruity, woody, notes of bitter almond. The finish has something very dry and yet fresh at the same time. As the aroma fades, its delicate, floral side emerges more and more, reminding me of roses. Cherries are known to be rose family...
