A little too sweet to get a higher score, but I like it anyway so it will have a place at my Spanish shelf further on. It’s sweet and fruity with an aroma and flavor of vanilla. At the palate and during the medium long finish it’s also somewhat rather complex.

I bought this rum recently and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It literally explodes in your mouth. Though sweet it still manages to be complex and a bit dark. The rum is stated as a 31 year, which is pretty unique.

I associate a lot with this rum. A very pleasantly mild rum. The alcohol is very well integrated. It is a bit sweeter and has nice caramel notes. I can definitely recommend this rum. Update: tasted again after years. A bit sweeter than I remember :D In my opinion, more suitable for beginners.

A surprisingly complex, dark and deep nose for a Spanish-style rum. Caramel, old wood, spices, walnut and a very pleasant roasted side. The palate is dense despite the low ABV, the sweet side with a nice caramel is obvious and costs quite a few points here. But all this sugar does not diminish the aromas which remain complex with a certain depth. The finish is rather long for a rum of this type. Aromas of dried fruits and leather appear. A roasted coffee side is present until the end in this rum which, apart from the sugar (for my taste way too present), pleases me a lot.

Has a nice color. On the nose the first impression is mild and soft and sweet. Seems very pleasant and tasty but not complex. On the palate then the impressions from the nose reappear. Here however with higher intensity. Especially sweetness of honey candies, caramel and a distinct bourbon barrel influence. Nice to drink with the sweet softness. I think a good choice for lovers of distinct sweetness but exciting is something else.

8,6:The nose is thick and deep, with heavy aromas of caramel and sweet coffee. The profile is roasted but very round, with caramelized nuts and vanilla. One can imagine a tight, sweet coffee resting close to the oak barrel.Aeration clears the horizon and lightens the rum somewhat. The aromas of soft white oak come into play. Then we come across the toasty coconut and vanilla, hand in hand, followed by sweet caramel. Time brings balance, and with it, a certain elegance and maturity of precious wood. 8,8:On the palate, we find a sweet rum with a lascivious complexity. The attack is both fruity and very round, with extremely ripe fruit bursting with sugar (mirabelle plum, peach). Caramel very slowly covers these fruits, carrying with it a few caramelized peanut and hazelnut chips. The rum is then enriched by leather and vanilla, before being picked up again by thick caramel. 8,8:The finish is extremely round, bordering on rum liqueur...

Many years ago I had the Malt Rum version in the glass and found the bottling not so bad, as it was easy to access and still had some depth. One of the few Oliver & Oliver products I could appreciate. Now I took the chance and tried the current Spirit Drink version. Clearly sweetened, which is immediately noticeable. But if sweetened, then like this. I liked it overall quite well again. Could become a guilty pleasure rum for me if I could get a bottle for under 60€. It’s not worth more. There is some complexity and especially the red fruits are nice.

A sweeter rum, with a spicy hint. Introduced a few non-rum-drinkers to it, and it was a pleasant suprise for them. For me it's a good sipper with dried fruit and toffee in the nose, notes of oak, coffee and vanilla

This lovely rum is chestnut coloured. Smell is not the strongest, but you can distinguish nuts, chocolate, wood and leather. Nothing special?.....Just wait for it!......Let´s taste it. Boom! Sweet, woody and madeira with honey, soooo nice, and sooooooo looooooooong lasting. Body is aftertaste, aftertaste is body. AND IT IS SWEET. I have never tried something similar like this rum. If you can enjoy even sweet rums, go for it! Yummy! They add honey and some ingredients to this rum, to make it sweeter, so the rating is only "8". With honey I can prepare even sweet slivovitz, so no magic tricks has happened in this case.

Edited. I had a chance to try this again after a while. This is definitely Cuban rum. Authentic. Even tho it has a lower proof, it integrates really well with the ABV. Nose: Thick of caramel and sweet coffee. A very round profile, with caramelized nuts and vanilla. Palate Sweet rum with some interesting complexity. Fruity and very round, with ripe fruit bursting with sugar and carrying with it a few caramelized peanut and hazelnut chips. Finish Round and long finish. Enriched leather and vanilla, before being picked up again by thick caramel.

On the nose toasted/smoky with dried fruits, caramel and a bit of wood. On the palate enveloping with plums, caramel/honey, barrel/leather, smoky/toasted. It's quite full-bodied but lacks depth, still an interesting product.
