The first surprise is the color — several tasters call it "Rosé," not rum. This 65% Savanna from a red wine cask splits people hard: a few catch plums, cherry and citrus peel, but most say the wine and raw alcohol bury everything. One reviewer summed it up as tasting more like a very strong red wine than rum. Very little of the distillery's character survives.

Haha, I think I still have a lot to learn about rum. However, I find this one very tasty. There's a nice fruity red wine aroma on the nose and I think there's also cherry on the palate. You can hardly taste the alcohol. I like it.

I was skeptical about this finish beforehand. Unfortunately, the bottling doesn't really convince me either. As a Savanna fan, I don't really see any parallels to the base here. It is a traditional rum, I exclude HERR/Grand Arome. Overall, the rum is too unbalanced for me with lots of wood and roasted aromas.

The color does not exist on the RumX scale. Rose. It needs to breathe a little longer, the aroma becomes more natural. Very fruity, citrus peel, oak and medicine. In the mouth then furry, alcohol stings neat. He is not my thing, but could imagine that lovers of fruity rums can gain more from it.

I'm not fundamentally against red wine finishes. However, this one is very poorly made. Both on the nose and on the palate, the finish overpowers everything that could still be there from the rum - except for the alcohol, which comes across as very intrusive and unpleasant. However, I have the suspicion that the base material was not one of Savanna's best barrels. The rum goes down the sink.

The biggest letdown of the evening in our little Savanna round was unfortunately this one. Once again a prime example of how you can completely ruin a rum with a finish. I only tasted it briefly and then poured it away after a little air didn't make it any better.

Since I can only join the previous speakers, too much alcohol and not quite round the bottling. What you can see immediately, however, is the storage in the red wine barrel, this comes out very clearly on the palate. The typical Savan notes you can already recognize.

Rarely tasted such a bad finish! This red wine finish overpowers almost everything except the poorly integrated alcohol... I usually like subtle finishes with red or white wine. With this one, everything must have definitely gone wrong

A gentle aroma of wine and fruit. More of a fruity spirit than rum. In taste, the wine barrel is no longer disturbing at all, on the contrary, a pleasant complement to the rum's flavor. Unfortunately, for me, this is too "grassy" a piece, which unlike HERR I don't like.

Long story short: no bueno. The nose is very much just strong alcoholic notes with redwine. This smells like a very very bad fortified wine. Just not good. On the palate it is a bit „better“ but still… alcohol is very dominant. There is some sweetness from the wine but overall this isn’t balanced at all. Very much not recommended.

Weak Savanna with - am I the only one, who feels the strongest taste macerated vanilla pod? Rumy z destilerie Savanna jsou jedny z mych nejoblibenejsich. Doporucuji kazdemu vyzkouset zejmena vuce esterove kousky jako je Grand arome nebo HERR. Tolik ovoce v nekolika malo kapkach tekutiny jste dlouho necitili.

Great Savanna tasting with Artur. An aggressive, medicinal nose reminiscent of hospital alcohol disinfectant. On the palate, overripe apple with disinfectant and also strawberry chewing gum. The finish is short with some wet barrel notes. Not an unforgettable Savanna here.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of strong rums, but this one isn't bad, even though you can feel the alcohol... in the nose I first smelled plums and then I read that red wine, then woody notes. The color is very light, transparent and slightly reddish brown. On the palate I taste fruit, wood and of course tones from the red wine. I haven't tasted the Savanna yet, so honestly I don't know how much flavor remains from it, but according to other reviews it seems to me that everything was overshadowed by the red wine. After a while resting in the glass, the main taste really dominates as red wine - as if it had 50-60% and wasn't rum. The finish for me is quite long - the taste of rum lingers on the palate for a long time.

the red wine notes are unmistakable, unfortunately also so dominant that they slay everything else...still some wood barrel, but that's it. For a 60 rating (= pleasant) it is not enough, also because on the palate the high ABV brutally strikes, and in the finish remains almost only alcoholic sharpness...the experiment is unfortunately not successful.

Nic moc. The smell right after pouring is really hellish, a bit better after 30 minutes. Red wine overpowers the rum's character, there's too much alcohol that isn't well integrated. I'm grateful for the chance to taste it, but I definitely won't explore further...

#5298 03.05.2025 Running some samples while watching "Bumblebee" Nose Alcoholic, wine, light wood, faint iodine, light resin, watermelon, citrus. Palate Alcoholic, wine, light wood, light citrus, light roasted, spice. Finish Medium to long, alcoholic, wine, fruits, light grapes. Empty glass Spice, fruits, light vanilla. This release is completely out of balance and both the ABV and wine has taken over.

To me it tastes like a red wine with a lot of alcohol. I would have hoped for more here. The finish is also very alcoholic. There are some notes of tropical fruit on the nose. The finish is rather long-lasting

Puuhh... Alcohol is already really very concise and anything but well integrated. Behind that you find a bit of notes of strong, slightly burnt coffee, wood and tannins from the red wine barrel and some sea salt chocolate, as well as strangely soapy bergamot notes?..From savanna flavors no matter whether traditional or grand arome is almost nothing to be found here. Too bad!

So compared to the RA Fiji FSDP, I’m totally with you here. Yesterday on the first try I was really shocked. Savanna and red wine cask doesn’t work. I only smell bitter candied orange and red wine plus cask. Actually nothing is left of the Savanna. It’s sharp-edged alcoholic and artificial, the finish is long and unpleasant, burnt wood and sharp-edged. The attempt with plenty of water also failed - now it smells like Aperol Spritz and I don’t like that at all, plus it strangely gets even more bitter. Too bad, I had hoped for something good. What do I do now with the bottle? Close my eyes and get through it? I can’t imagine any cocktail with it either. :-/

First sip - oh yuck, what kind of nasty is this? I didn't expect it at all. I give it a chance, second and third sip is much better. It's like a drier alcoholic port where the alcohol sharpness and a bit of wood, grapefruit are strongly felt. If the alcohol sharpness was reduced (better integrated alcohol), I might even like it. No hint of Reunion in the taste, the red wine barrel overpowered everything :-(
