"The cask killed the spirit," as one member put it — and that's the whole story here. This is a Bielle agricole that's been finished so hard in wine cask that the sugar cane all but disappears under raisin, tannin and dry, grippy fruit. Most tasters find the wine barrel takes over completely and the 55% runs hot. A few still find it drinkable and even tasty; more call it an experiment gone wrong.

Yes, the finish could be less dominant and the alcohol better integrated. Still easy to drink and somehow tasty. At that price for half a liter, I wouldn't need a bottle, but I'll gladly finish the 10 cl (thanks to Jörg). A bottle of Bielle Excellence Rhum RX16296 is on its way, so I'm really curious about a comparison.

This experiment went thoroughly wrong. The finish completely overwhelms the rum, plus in the finish there’s an unpleasant sulfur note and a strange dryness. Alcohol integration is only moderate. Even a 5 cl sample is a challenge.

As much as it pains me, this was unfortunately a huge miss. The finish dominates extremely and overpowers everything. Alcohol poorly integrated. Personally, it doesn't suit my taste at all.

The wine barrel is so present that you can't make out the base fabric, unfortunately. I was actually looking forward to Bielle.... Nevertheless, a good rum!

I don't see the result of this barrel experiment as negatively as some other community members. Yes, the finish is heavily dominated by the quite peculiar, hard-to-describe note of tannins, milk sugar, and grapes, which is typical for the ex-red wine barrel finishes I'm familiar with. Here, the note hits a bit too hard, but up until then, the rum definitely has some pleasant moments to note.

Smooth in the sample. Then opened the purchased bottle and was hit by the alcohol. A few months later, it was drinkable for the first time. Still: raisin flavor and sharpness overpower everything. The agricole freshness barely comes through. Okay with limes and a bit of sugar as Ti Punch.

The Cask killed the spirit. This could also be a Whisky with some intense finishing. Nevertheless I really liked it and for half the price I would get myself a bottle as easy companion for soon to come autumn evenings.

It really smells good, but the taste does not match the nose. Wine cask comes through strongly and in the finish too alcoholic, slightly burning. Sample is okay, but I would not buy the bottle.
